Post Your Daily Encounter Pics Here

My car's engine goes far back into the dash innards and isn't above the front wheels either, does that make it basically mid engined? Certainly not.

As I said, I'll drive one and see for myself as I can't imagine the feel being the same (noise, driving position, build quality inside etc etc) but am happy to prove myself wrong all the same and hey, if it is 90% then there are plenty about at decent prices should the desire ever come about?

I don't think there is much argument that the S2000 is classed as a FMR layout car, much like anything of it's type (2 seater sports car); Z4, 350z, MX-5...

Your typical FMR layout is not quite the same as a RMR layout like the NSX though, I don't think saying an S2000 being FMR makes it similar to a RMR NSX necessarily holds a huge amount of water, it's more a semantic argument than anything.

True, but mrk was essentially classing the S2000s layout in with anything else that has the engine in the front.

mrk, you won't find the S2000s interior to be up there with the NSX although I find the digital dash is much nicer than the NSX's very dated looking clocks.
As for sound, a stock S2000 below 6000rpm doesn't sound good. One with an FIPK, above 6000RPM sounds absolutely mental.
To me, the comparison between S2000 and NSX is similar to the comparison between Porsche Cayman and 911. The 911 is the big, expensive one but the Cayman can still nearly get there in terms of feel and performance. Money no object you would still take the 911 though, as would I with the NSX.

That is exactly how mine sounds.

Actually it doesn't, take the pollen filter thing off and it looks like this...

The 4 pot is pretty set back though tbf, and does give a better balance than a 6.

My engine doesn't look like that, and can confirm it is inset a bit into the dash under the pollen filter.

It's not mid engined though, in any way, shape or form :P

I'd be very interested to try a VX220 and NSX back to back. They sound like very similar cars. Didn't realise the NSX lacked power steering, can't be much fun parallel parking in an even heavier car.

Over the production cycle they added more things to it and that added to the weight as well.

The one I posted had no power steering and you really had to fight with the wheel when parking and since it had the smaller and lighter NSX-R steering wheel, the fight was stronger still but not in a bad way, more in the “oh this is quite interesting” whilst heaving the wheel in whatever direction trying to park up :D

The VX wheel was tiny too (was the right size in proportion to the rest of the car). The weight wasn't so bad with just the driver (I weigh nothing at all) but add a passenger in and you really do need to push and pull at it. Took me a while to get the hang of getting into tight spots. The NSX is a bigger car so would be even worse.

That video has made me miss my S2000. I would get another if the insurance and tax wasn't so expensive :(

Insurance has dropped through the floor recently. Mine dropped by nearly half in the last 12 months. Tax is reasonable if you get a <2006 model. A 2005 facelift would be my choice at the moment. My 2007 model is £490/year which stings a bit......until I drive it.
