This was quite something to see in the flesh:

We went to Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace and there was a large contingent of Spyders in the Car Park. A lot of RS versions as well.

I had never realised they were that popular after Clarkson's comment about fighting with the "small tent" of a roof covering.

I still don't see the appeal over a Boxster really although they are beautiful cars.

Am I right in thinking that you can't fully seal the interior off on those? Looking at that one, there is a gap at the back and the sides.
I watched The Smoking Tire video about the Porsche Spyder the other day and I think the roof comes in two parts - you can have it as per the picture above, but there's an extra bit which includes a rear window which makes it "watertight".

The RS model is nothing like the regular Boxster, GT engine, shorter gearing, less weight, they are road sports car perfected, there is no better car in the Porsche line up for anyone wanting the very best road car Porsche has ever made. Negatives are the fiddly roof and been a very new model some including myself will argue the older Porsches are more engaging at lower speeds, and therefor more fun. Still for a brand new car the RS Spyder is something truly special, prices are dropping fast also due to it not been a limited production model.

The roof comes in two parts, the canopy and weather seal, the photo above only has canopy part on, weather seal is only required when washing or torrential rain.

A lot of rust protection and never used on salty roads. With the amount of salt they use here over winter it kills pretty much everything eventually.
