what controllers are you guys using with software such as tractor or ableton ?

getting quite into ableton and due to a total lack of vinyl im thinking of getting a controller to use with it and other software

i just use the mouse to load tracks, find cue points, set loops etc, all the EQ and FX are on the mixer

from what ive heard the evoludion X-session isnt too bad though :

Click

theres always the DJM800 or Xone:3D if you're feeling extravagent though :D

lol didn't like it much then :p Next time i'll have PvD and lots of it :D

Mixed it on Atomix virtual DJ, internal mixer and all, can't be arsed with the proper mixer.

Tune selection aside, you need to work on how the tracks interact with each other, you just crossfade them in about a second and it sort of defeats the object of a mix.

hmm I never thought i'd end up defending that mix because im aware its not great. But crossfading them in about a second? That is BS, I just had another quick skim through it, most of the mixes last a good 20-30 seconds, there is only one mix where i threw the fader accross because the sync was way out. Im afraid I have no respect for your opinion.

he was only trying to help...

if i posted a mix and someone commented on where i went wrong and offered advice i'd be pleased

you're not going to get anywhere unless you learn from your mistakes

A second was an exagerration on my part, but there are lots of things you can work on. First and foremost mixing is made a million times easier when you stick to one sort of trance, or if you want to include different kinds find a way you can move between the genres i.e. a track that has elements of both and that will hold it all together. It's never going to sound good switch from big euphoric tracks to simpler songs as they will just sound empty. Another thing I like to do is EQ out the distinctive parts of tracks leaving behind the bassline and working this into another song, then you can fade out that song and at the same time bring the other elements of the track back in the mix. If you can keep basslines going this gives you some continuity.

Anyway, I'm just trying to be constructive and helpful so don't take it personally, I'm far from decent myself.

ok yes, I can see what you are saying now, your first post was criticising the length of the mixes even though they were not overly short.

To be fair yes, I didn't really touch the EQ at all in that mix, so at times things got really hectic with both tracks in the mix. I need to work on this, but seeing as im on the internal mixer on the PC it is very difficult to fiddle with the dials while also keeping things in sync and working the fader. I think I will invest in an external mixer after xmas, should make fiddling with dials a viable option.

just downloaded virtual DJ and have been using that for a few hours, is it just me or is it 100 times better than traktor? :D

it once you've manually synced the tracks (much more satisfying than traktor) it seems to be able to keep them in sync for much longer :)

i prefer it to traktor yes. the giant graphical display at the top is great. traktor has looooads of buttons which i dont know how to operate too.

i find virtual dj much better with an external mixer now that ive tried both, not sure about the internal one but as long as you've got a minimum of a 4.1 sound card then even a cheapo mixer like i had is so much better than on the screen :)

considering getting some cd decks again now

erol alkan and annie mac completely blew me away on Friday and that night has totally made me want to start djing again !\

was some crazy crazy crazy crazy things going down on the cdj looping that night by erol

have no vinyl anymore (only had little amounts anyway) so cd decks are the best idea , wont be till after x mas though :(

must be someone on here who mixes electro house , post a mix !
