Post Your Garden!

Bit of an ongoing project to clear the jungle at the end of my garden.
Unfortunately this is about at it's end of life..

so I bought another..

I've managed to clear quite a bit so far, and previously both the fence on the left & in front weren't visible due to overgrowth, and the idea is to get rid of anything remaining and extend the garden into the area where I previously kept chickens..

This may take a while..

Yikes

The fescue/Brent attempt. Few patches of the Dwarf Rye as piped up but in general very happy.

Keep cutting it short and feeding it... I am on my 2nd year of Bent/Fescue mix and its like a carpet in how thick the sward is. I didnt eradicate and start again, I just done 2x full renovations over the 2 years and this, together with the Winter which kills a lot of Rye off, the last few little bits will be gone after this Winter.

The difference between a Ryegrass lawn and a Bent/Fescue lawn is night and day for sward thickness. This also helps keep out weeds and the seed cannot get to the soil to germinate and, any that do, are rapidly out competed and smothered by the lateral growth of the bent grass.

EDIT: A couple of images of my own lawn I took just now to show thickness etc:

A bit more progress.

For the money, that chipper/mulcher is an absolute weapon.

Plenty of fuel for my fire pit/log burner (they'll be 3x that when I've finished)..

The ground is too hard for the squirrels to bury their food and I keep finding walnuts all over the place, and in this case in my twisted hazel tree..

Wet walnuts are god tier food, and dare I say it, better than sprouts.

My growing season has been one of the worst.
We had a cold snap that killed everything we just planted outdoors. Setting is back a few weeks, now we've had one of meh-est summers for a while.
Plenty of zucchini and strawberries but not a single tomat and only 2 cucumbers so far..... Boo hoo :p

Bought a ton of herb seeds in Poland 1 zloty a packet and they did well, but soon time to try and dry it down.

I want mint to thrive here but the winters destroyed my last attempt so I'm trying again, again.

In discussion with the petrol station that we share a wall with The back of the garden about a getting a new shed/storage building as they want to work on the wall and we are in the way.
I thought it would be ez money but we've had a real struggle, even though Swedish building laws and regs are totally on our side. Should we need to use the aggressive option.... But I really don't want it to get that way.

Meeting them this evening to discuss more and hopefully a final agreement.

Lawn porn

With the bit of rain the last few weeks, and the week of showers forcast, with still decent warmth, gave the law a bit of TLC at the weekend. Mow / aerate / overseed and feed.

Yeah I was wondering whether to scarify now that the lawn has had some rain after the droughts down south, want to seed before the weather turns

I went more gently at it than normal. Even the barer patches still have green shoots in, so hopefully being warm and wet should recover well. The main reason for also doing it was to slit the surface and let the moisture and feed in.

Yeah I did both the last couple weeks of course the drought has returned and there hasn't been a drop of rain for weeks, not that there was much when it did start blink and you'd miss it. So the sprinkler was out this afternoon. No rain on the horizon either temperatures are due to hit mid twenties with 20c at night midweek, absolutely bonkers.
Veg has been a bit of disaster this year the climbing beans have finally decided to throwing pods but they have irrigation everything else has to fend for its itself and there almost nothing pulled about three turnips and that was it the rest are miserable and blighted by mildew. Its just too dry

Yeah I've decided not to bother now, will try to sort it next year, which is annoying. If there's a chance mod Oct I might try but I suspect it might be too late for seed to grow?
