hey clubb, seems like the bin cover troughs are in lots of shade, make sure you have plants that love it, or it'll be heartache, doesn't matter what you do, even by the hour, if those plants need good light it's a battle you can't win.. However, there are LOADS of plants who like partial to full on dark, and will do wonderful, ferns are super for shape and texture, there's also primulas (primrose family) that do great on bad light, in spring there's always hellebore too, they come in terrific shapes, colours and sizes. Just have a read on partial shade / full shade options on google, stick some fillers like varigated ivy / ferns etc as back drop, stick bulbs in in the autumn, great display come spring. (The bulbs will be chuckable though, they will send all the energy into flowering, and won't have the light after to 'recharge' the bulb for next year).

A nice addition to the garden, stick to the rules, it will be an easy life, try to fight.. expect annoyance! Good Luck!

Thanks Madwelsh and thanks for the warning, Luckly we spent a good hour with a local plant expert at garden centre who looked at our pictures and helped us pic all the plants we have chosen for the area, what a helpful and knowledgeable man he was :)

Excellent improvement there, you've done a great job!

Some more progress. There's another coat of stain to apply to the raised borders and the decking. The plants are being introduced in a structured way with more to be planted in the front area of the beds. The climbers are yet to be trained properly. The turf should be here on Thursday.

The pots for the acers will be replaced with black zinc planters and the furniture has been identified (will be bought as soon as the garden is complete). Tall planters will be used on the decking for some ferns which were bought yesterday.

The step to the raised corner section still needs to be completed.

@ThereIs0nly0ne is the fence paint being used Cuprinol Silver Copse? was looking to paint our fence that colour.

The slats have been painted using Valspar exterior paint. It's a mix called Sleepy Kitten. Not sure if that's the one you mean, or the one on the fence panels themselves. If it's the latter, I'll have to have another look for the name ...

To say I'm pleased with how this is turning out is an understatement. It's been a bit slower than I would have liked but the result is what matters.

There's still a few things to do but the lawn is now down. A slow growing tough / hardy variety has been selected for the purpose.

It's a shame the sun isn't shining but here are a couple of pictures anyway. I'll take some more once it's done.
