Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

I don't want to move the sofa too much as it'll start to cut into the room so I'm thinking some taller stands which will allow me to increase the angle of the rear speakers. The one in the corner really suffers.

Thats got to be some of the worst speaker positioning i've ever seen!! Where abouts have you moved to now? Love the sofa

Cheers for the birthday message yesterday by the way, not really got round to replying to any yet!

Are those Soundstyle Z2 stands?

Nope, they're Atacama Nexus 6.

haha, tell me about it. Not very happy with it. I definitely need to do something about it but I've been busy with other things so not had the time to plan it properly.

Split up with my gf so got myself a really smart 2 bedroom flat in Westhoughton. Much closer to work, much cheaper :)

The guy who was here previously left the sofa for me (as in mine to take when I move). It's got a fully fitted kitchen as well so I ended up having to sell most of my furniture from the house.

Ha, no problems :) Definitely have to meet up for a belated birthday drink soon, it's been ages!

It's not set out as well as my last house which had me sat right in the middle of the speakers. I'm not too bothered about the fronts but the rears certainly need positioning properly.

That's crying out to me to just go two channel.

Decided to rearrange the room last night. Downside is that it's made the room look a little smaller but the positioning is much better. The sofa is now central with the TV unit and the rear speakers are an equal distance from my usual seating position.

I thought I'd be able to live with it but you guys pointing out just how bad it actually was, made me realise that I had to do something about it. I'll take a couple of new pictures later.

Finally, when eating or just sat with mates, the amazing Zeppelin provides the entertainment here. Its simply NOT HiFi, but for an MP3 station it really does sound pretty damned amazing!

Please ignore the mess but you get the gist..

Sky HD+, PS3, Technics Amp and some other tech all hidden from view.

And we're still in the stages of redecorating so a lot of it is going to be changed.. But not the set up.. Speakers may go though.

Hi, I'm posting to see if I can have a few design tips and improvements to my room.

I currently rent a room in a flat. I have just got a full time job so I have not been able to modify it and get paid at the end of June.

Here are some pictures of the room and the layout:

This photo shows that the sofa is directly underneath the bed.

This is the view from the sofa looking at the PC.

This is just to the right of the PC showing a built in wardrobe which I can't do much about.

This is the floor plan.

I know it is really small but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas with what to do with it or whether I should moves things around. I will mostly use it for watching Blu-Rays, TV and games on the PC (I have 2 Xbox controllers).

Is there any equipment that would be more suited for a room like this other than what I have such as better desks?

Thanks.

I think the screen is LCD, only the back lighting is LED.

True. I didn't think "proper" LED TV's were available as such. I remember the Sony OLED but that was tiny.

We only bought it because of the power savings compared to a plasma.

Oh and because it looks sexual.

My bedroom set-up.

PC:

i7 960
6 GB DDR3 (Tri-Channel)
ATI 6870
Asus Xonar DG

Display:

Hanns.G 28" LCD monitor (1920x1200)

Sound:

Denon PMA-250SE phono integrated amplifier
Wharfedale Valdus 400 floorstanding speakers

Finally got around to sorting out my crossover capacitors in my speakers. Put in some clarity cap ESA's to replace the mid 70's bipolar electrolytics.

Also finished the remainder of the work on the Luxman's tone control.

The rest of the amp recieved a complete overhaul earlier in the year, replacing all the capacitors (the film caps were changed from mylar to PP or styrol)

Started work on my dad's amp and speakers now as his system is sounding rather lacklustre. (very little HF) The amp and speakers (a Leak 2200 and celestion ditton 25's) are completely untouched from 1975, I've replaced some caps in the amp already which made quite an improvement. (the old ones were way out of spec, heaven knows what the ESR was)

Completed most of the restoration work on the Leak 2200 this evening. Fitted new main filter caps (BHC, 10,000uF 63V) and the rest of the parts replaced with panasonic FM/FC. There is a single cap left to replace (behind the volume pot) which should be arriving tomorrow. All of the old caps were measuring a lot higher than their ratings and there has been a fair improvement in sound since changing them. I checked the speaker switch and the wiring and cannot find anything suspect. Gave it a good clean but still no dice. (spkr1 right channel is outputting when the speakers are supposed to be off for headphone use)

Good work,it must be very satisfying knowing that you have restored those old pieces of equipment back to their former glory.
I only wish I had the talent to do the same!!
