Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Love this cabinet Ezah, just wondering if you think the doors would still open if the feet weren't put on or would they catch on the floor?

I have ferrets which are an absolute nightmare when trying to find a new reasnably priced tv cabinet. The Besta ticks all the boxes apart from that 10cm floor clearance :(

Hey. The legs are an optional item, I just checked the ikea catalogue and it shows the besta cabinet on the floor with the door open, probably with some small pads stuck on the underside. As long as you adjust your doors to hang straight I don't see why it would be an issue to have a few mm clearance to the floor.

P.s do check the depth carefully, my htpc and avr actually stick out of the rear of the cabinet.

ah rx8, my room is too small for them, the rx6s are almost too bassy!

one more pic, it was really hard to capture the back lighting in a dark room without either everything else being dark or use the flash but loose the backlight effect

Terrific thanks, I'll see if I can diy a small raiser to give a little clearance without inviting curious guests.

I can't quite see on the pics but did you build it with no backing? I was looking at the one with the solid back but obviously would have to create cable routes and unsure if this is risky given the usual quality of ikea wood.
I currently don't have anything that would create a problem depth wise, but am in the market for an AV receiver and part of the aim of upgrading my TV unit was to facilitate that.

Just measure the size of the component and cut a hole in the back with a craft knife, the backing is really thin.
Then you can slide the component through the back, and that makes it easier to play around with your cables etc. plus the ventilation is better lol

Ikea do sell those felt pads to go under book cases, table legs etc, but I am sure they have something for the besta without the legs.

Quick run down......

Nearly all 2nd hand/clearance kit, really doesn't cost much and I've had most of it for a long time.

Epson TW-3500 1080p Projector (£600 2 years ago)
Yamaha DSP-AX861SE AVR (Getting old now will replace within 6 months I reckon, but it still sounds great just not got many modern features) (£230 5/6 years ago, last years model bargain)
Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 3 Floorstanders
Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 1 Rear Bookshelves
Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo Active Subwoofer
Castle Keep Centre (I do have the matching Aegis but it's in the lounge) (Got the entire Aegis set for £180 with stands)
Van Damme Blue 2x2.5mm cabling.

Screen is DIY, basically stretched canvas over wooden frame & painted with Black Widow II secret sauce. It's roughly 104" diagonal 2.4:1 aspect ratio, black velvet edging.
Wall is covered in super absorbent black velvet (makes a HUGE difference). Floor is 2 Ikea Hampen rugs to again cut down on reflections.

2nd hand/clearance is the way to go, buy last years top end model for the price of this years mid range it's a no brainer imo. 2nd hand prices drop through the floor aswell because we all know most home cinema/hifi people are nerds that need the latest and greatest! My only consideration at the moment is a new amp (Anthem MRX or Yamaha Aventage I suspect) and maybe a new PJ (JVC X35?, not sure)

Very nice :) I have the same speakers front and back and love them!

I'm curious about the felt you hung? How does it make a difference? Is the room quite bad for echoing normally?

Cheers.

Very nice Chris. More pics would be good if you get the chance.
My aventage 3030 was half price when I got it new last year, and I love it.

The sound is crap down there at the moment, lots of hard surfaces - but the velvet's not for that.
It's to stop light bouncing around the room and lighting up the room, the darker the room the higher the contrast. Some on the ceiling and back wall will be the next step.
It's hard to imagine but if turn off all the lights in a room, then shine a torch on your normal magnolia wall for example it would light up the room a lot through reflection right? Then shine it on some dark fabric and see how much darker the whole room is, same idea.

Also having it on the front increases perceived contrast massively and makes the screen look like it's floating, which is awesome.

Decided to put tv and soundbar on the wall to free up some floor space

TV - Panasonic TX-P50U30B
Soundbar - Samsung HW-F450

Really happy with the results, tho fitting a 50" plasma to the wall is a bit nerve racking :-)
