Post your laptops!

Why did you go from the 9400 to the Vostro?

Well my 9400 went pop and dell replace with above spec free of charge , they never picked up my 9400 which has now been repaired :):)

I still think my old 9400 is a better machine , not sure if you can upgrade 9400 to 4GB ?

Do you really want a photo of my Acer 5633? It's not very exciting but it does the job when I'm working in London. I bought it because I had to take a PC base unit with me to act as a server for a 30 PC roll-out earlier this year and I vowed not to do that again.

T5500 C2D @ 1.66GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM, up from standard 1GB
160GB 5400RPM HDD, up from standard 120GB and I'm thinking about a 7200RPM replacement
15.4" 1280 x 800 screen - with hindsight I wish I'd got something with 1440 x 900 as that 800 vertical res feels a bit cramped
Dual-layer DVD/RW
etc., etc.

Excuse the terrible photo from my camera.

Specs are-

Core Duo 1.73 GB
2 GB DDR2
160 GB 5400 rpm
17 inch ultrabright 1440*900
Intel 945 graphics
Vista Premium
and yes that is one of the worlds smallest mice :D (7.5 cm)

Only had it a week and it's my first laptop, but loving it so far. It's not for games, got a proper PC for that (see sig). Paid £450.

Am looking at buying one of these to, how does it run in visa? is it slow?
My only concern is that T2080 and the GMA950

Runs vista just fine, aero is smooth and the 2GB means paging is minimal in apps. T2080 isn't that bad really - I generally leave it in quiet mode most of the time where the CPU is clocked back to 800 MHz and I still rarely see cpu usage over 50% even when using my usb tv-card.

Guess it depends what you're planning to use it for really. If it's for gaming I would look elsewhere TBH. I've had mixed results - HL2 crashed on min settings, but UT (original) runs nice and smooth. Haven't tried a lot of games on it. I don't mind testing something for you if it would help.

Couple of other things - viewing angles on the screen are pretty poor but I guess most laptops around this price have TN+Film screens. Speakers are poor too but I guess most laptop speakers are.

Whats your super PI time?

Not buying it to play games on,just for surfing the web,e-mails,music transfers and the odd CD/DVD burning

SuperPI 1M = 39s (SuperPI only uses one core btw). So the CPU is about half the speed of the E6750 (which does 1M in 19s) in my desktop then. Should be well capable of those tasks you mention though. I haven't tried the burner yet, but I know burning dvds on my desktop only uses <5% cpu usage.

I have a Acer Aspire 7720G of the following spec:

Intel C2D T7300 (2GHz)
2GB DDR2
160GB HDD
DVDRW
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300
17" TFT @ 1440x900
802.11a/b/g
Integrated Webcam
Vista Home Premium

Find it to be very good for general use and media playback, (I don't play games). The sound output on it is also very good as it has a small subwoofer in the bottom of the laptop which means that audio is not just the usual tinny weak stuff you expect from your average laptop. The only downside it that its a bit large due to the 17" screen but as its used around the house and not taken elsewhere that's not to much of an issue.

Currently considering picking up a cheap low end Lenovo N200 or Aspire 5720, (either of them around the C2D T5xxxx with X3100 graphics on a 15.4" panel range), to run linux.
