Certainly looks like a hair or thread to me, it's not dead pixels for certain.

My work got one of those in the summer for general department use, very nice to use (2.4 GHz, 2 Gb RAM, 160 Gb hdd). Seems a popular model too amongst the Linux users who go for the Intel wireless and Nvidia Quadro options with it.

This seems a very popular model, I got this through the house hold insurance as the dog decided she did not like my 630m and through water over it :(.
I upgraded the harddrive to 120gig, 7200rpm drive, running 1.66ghz, seems to handle all things I throw at it.
