So who`s using an efficient Linux distro with a silly ammount of computing power? Or perhaps you are using the most ultra mini hardware and running a full desktop o/s at good speed?

also how is it running driver wise and in general feel?

Power

specs:

Linux Mint 11 gnome 64bit
Amd [email protected]
ATi AMD 5850
4GB ram @1600mhz
64GB OCZ ((540MBPS)) SSD :D

speed = rapid :p

Puny

laptop
Linux Mint 10 gnome 32bit
pentium dual [email protected]
2gb ddr2@600mhz
160gb hdd

My work workstation is a bit stupid, the company just bought them not knowing what they were buying, it has 5 grand of graphics cards (2x quadros) and I'm a backend Java dev!

Ubuntu 11.10 64
Dual x2 3ghz quad xeons
12gb ecc ram
2x nv quadro 5000 gfx cards
2x 360gb SAS 15k drives in raid0

Oh yeah I have 3x 24" monitors too but can on use 2 because I can't get unity to use all 3 on 2 gfx cards.

Debian 6 Squeeze
AMD 3700 San Diego 2.2Ghz
512MB DDR 400Mhz RAM
IDE 80GB Maxtor

Perfectly fine for a file, torrent server.

Just wish i had more RAM to play with. :D

The fileserver looks like this:
UNIMATRIX-001-001
Athlon64 x2 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Platinum
768mb RAM
Approx 6tb worth of various disks- Several smaller LVMs and some single 1 & 1.5tb drives
PCI Radeon 9200 Pro
OpenSUSE

Runs perfectly for what it's needed for. For that matter, it ran just fine on a 3200+ single core, I just got the 4400+ cheap.

Also run OpenSUSE on the desktop for some things alongside Win7. This is a slightly more respectable:
Enterprise
Q9550
Asus P5N-E SLI
4gb RAM
4tb of disks
ATI Radeon 3870

(All networking gear and servers for myself & the family are the Borg, computers are Starfleet vessels and phones/ tablets are shuttlecraft)

AMD Phenom II X4 950 @ 4GHz
4GB RAM
Radeon 5850
150GB WD VelociRaptor

Not weak, but not powerful either.

Almost never use the rig though ): No space on my desktop, only have 1 monitor, I lack KVM switch and I spend most of my time gaming on my main rig (see sig)

So I'm very new to using linux properly (have only really dabbled in the past for specific things). Just got this at work though, so you can all probably expect some stupid questions in the coming weeks ...

4 x Opteron 6274 (2.2 GHz) = 64 cores
128Gb RAM
1Tb HDD for OpenSUSE 12
9Tb HDD for general storage
More storage by NAS

The machine dual boots Win7 for certain programs, which is on a separate 128Gb SSD. I don't use it for most things, though, as Win7 will only recognise 2 processor sockets.

It's a bit of a beast, but this is for genome assembly and highly-parallel bioinformatics applications, so I can easily max the processors. In fact I already have :(
