Potential power outages this winter

Would be interesting to see the likely massive surge of power usage by people preparing for the outage in the couple of hours before it happens, given we would have prior notice for it.

I suppose this would mean part of the country shifting their peak usage to another time, so actually be part of the idea? Forcing the country to spread the peak load?

To do that you would need to shift working hours and school time for that part of the country. It would be interesting to see if they could pull it off.

Think it's bad here, places in Spain aren't allowed A/C to go below 27C to save power. I missed the relief of nipping into a shop to escape the heat when i was there the other week!

The discussion is around power cuts from 4pm - 7pm. Many schools and business are outside of those working hours anyway, it would be ending the day only a little earlier than usual for most.

I was referring to the other poster point about shifting peak usage of parts of the country. Peak usage happens due to everyone doing things at the same time. Rush hour, everyone starting work or ending work at similar times to each other. People preparing dinner at similar times, hence a spike in the usage of energy in the evening etc..

My point is that if you want energy usage to be relatively flat throughout the day rather than spiking at certain times and if you are trying to achieve that by shifting the peak usage of parts of the country. The best way to achieve that would be by having those parts of the country literally shift their daily lives by a certain number of hours.

Basically fills up your thyroid with iodine blocking the abortion of the radioactive type.
Still impacts your organs, but take the iodine just before or just after, it reduces its effect if you taken after 3 hours. And don't take more than the 160mg-190mg.

Winter blackouts were common in the 70s when I was a kid. We always had candles on standby.

We had blackouts regularly all through the 80's and even after moving to a decent area of London in the 90's we still had the occasional blackout about once a year until it stopped happening in the late 90's. It's just a fact of life and threads like these just shows how soft and comfortable society has become
