** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

Probably missed this in the thread but why is the GSYNC one 100hz and the FREESYNC one 75hz?

it's an overclocking feature and it seems the only way that has been achieved is because of the presence of the NVIDIA G-sync module, or perhaps also more because of the absence of an internal scaler. either way, the G-sync module allows the refresh rate to be overclocked up to 100Hz. The FreeSync ver is capped at 75hz which seems to be stable on AMD cards, but 60Hz is seemingly the max stable on NVIDIA cards on that model (XR341CK)

What is the "blue band issue"?

You can't be told what the blue banding issue is... you have to see it for yourself...

Yes this really happened, but it's Acer so are we REALLY that surprised??

I see, definitely unpleasant.

I really want this monitor but the fact it could only be 61Hz is really disappointing. I suppose, worst comes to worst, I end up paying £300 for a G-Sync module...

I think it's highly unlikely anyone would end up with a 61Hz X34, or anything under 75Hz, I think it'll reach that comfortably and then some. I'll actually be surprised if 99% of these monitors don't get over 90Hz, but technically you'd still be entitled to a return if you weren't happy with a single digit under 100. That said, I don't see many people returning these for that reason if they get a perfect panel with no bleed or glow... on the other hand, a 100Hz panel is going straight back without hesitation if it does suffer with either of those excessively.

Well I watched Linus' videos and he goes on about how 75Hz is the biggest difference, so I'd be moderately happy with that. Anything higher would be a bonus I guess.

We'll see in a few weeks when I can afford to sell on my U3415W and then buy the X34. I still think I'm crazy for spending £660 on the Dell, let alone £950 on the X34. - Hopefully this is my last upgrade for a while.

75hz is definitely nicer than 60. 85 is where the seetspot kicks in and I can really start to tell a difference. 100 is sweet. 120 is very sweet. 144 I can't really tell a difference over 120.

If these new superwide curved panels, brand aside, can reliably hit 100hz and not have any other issues, they would and should sell by the bucket load.

But they will have problems. Negative Nancy yes I am.

I've not seen anyone get under 95hz and most of the time you should be able to get 100hz so I wouldn't worry about it. The blue banding issue shown above has now been fixed. I've tested the new v2 firmware and it works fine now :)

Been following this thread for some time now, only now made an account.

Looks like you got one of my photos i took of the monitor i returned today, was just to bad.. was rlly hartbroken i had to return it and lose it for 2-4 weeks.. only had it 1 day
Contacted acer and they told me they would not give me the firmware and i would need to either contact my shop (wich i did) or file a waranty claim with them directly.. went for my shop one since i did not have to pay money for shipping to send it back to them.

Hoping to get it back in 2 weeks and not in 4 but from what i experienced this is going to be one hell of a monitor.

Pre-order price was £949 its now Pre-Order £989. See first page and product page

It was £949, orders came in and ETA went out so price went up to £959, then the ETA changed to September and the price went up to £989, back to the same date it started with now with a £40 price bump, not the best really.

Well in that case you should get it back the same time as we get ours. By the looks of your experience you have had a good panel (bar the firmware issues of course). I didn't think that the BLB / IPS glow was bad at all on your X34. Did you manage to hit 100Hz with no problems?

Yeh, 100Hz without any problems at all.
Was my first time at a higher refresh rate then 60Hz and i must say i was impressed.

Yeh, exept for some coil whine when showing any white on the screen and the firmware issue i think i had a good panel indeed.

Well if you get the same panel back with the latest firmware you should indeed be a happy camper!

An Acer success story is a rare yet welcome one. I believe I would be happy with an x34 in a similar condition.

just in case anyone wants to know : the overclock was on the monitor itself and not in the nvidia panel as i first thought, have to put overclock to ON and then choose on how much you want to overclock with increments of 5 from 75-100Hz, then the monitor restarts and you can select it in windows/nvidia panel.

Hope im allowed to post my pictures here? Link
