Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

If you want to save a fraction of headache, they actually do a plugs and screws kit for £25:

It's a good way to get to grips with different screw sizes/plug sizes.... Whilst a 6 is generally fine, on crap surfaces I sometimes whack in a big boy, and then slot a 6 inside of it.

Can confirm these are brilliant, I like there snap off cable tie fixing things as well that where mentioned earlier in the thread as well. They work brilliant.

Milwaukee and Ryobi are basically the same now as well fwiw, the former is a bit more heavy duty. What I will say is i’ve played about with their tools recently and they’re pretty heavy, i’d imagine it’d get really difficult if you had to reach up for any length of time.

Haha, no way. I followed your post and discussion and made the exact same purchase, and received the wrong item too :D
Yeah I spoke to their customer service yesterday. It seems their central warehouse is a bit missed up at the moment. She said she could get another sent out but it's highly likely I'll receive the same item again  Going to exchange it after work at my local branch

Yeah, I ended up doing the same. Bloke at the desk had to check it himself twice to make sure it was the right one.

I recently added a Milwaukee plunge saw and palm router to my collection. They are two tools I have always wanted but never had a project whereby I could justify their purchase. Both are brilliant and if you have any need for either get them! Now I just have to stop myself chamfering all the edges in my house.

Ordered a DeWalt cordless multi tool. Needed for cutting through some redundant pipes under the floor but will be useful for other things too I think.

Dcs355 bare tool (already have XR batteries, drill, impact driver). £86 off Amazon, 5 installments interest free.

Take a small mortgage out for blades. They just seem to get crapper and crapper, and more and more expensive.

I used the Sawzall for metal now.

I use these wall plugs too and can confirm they are great. The box they come in is good too. I now just buy big packs of refills for the different size wall plugs as I need them.

Are all the blade fitments the same or do I need a specific type?
You want the ones with the back cut out designed for quick release. Loads of different brands available including toolstation and screwfix own brands which are a lot cheaper than dewalt.

You can fit the bosh ones but they require an allen key which is a PITA.

I’ve had makita tools For years for work, since I started as an apprentice.

They are good all rounders, take a lot of abuse and still go strong, once it’s time to change they are reasonably priced for what they offer! And the range is massive!

Highly recommend

I need to watch a video on this quick release.... my Milwaukee has the lever thing on top, but I don't see how it'd ever work if you didn't fiddle with the flat head large bolt on the bottom.

I’ve not used the Milwaukee but on the dewalt you just squeeze the silver handle and pull the blade off the front, it’s really simple but very effective mechanism.

It’s only negative is that it’s a bit stiff when new.
