Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

I’ve got the Dewalt cordless blower. It’s really good to be honest but it’d be nice to have a vacuum function which the Ryobi has. Not sure how powerful it’d be though.

I have a Ryobi hedge trimmer though and that’s great. I have a Dewalt to Ryobi battery converter to use Dewalt batteries in. The Ryobi tools which works well. Saves buying more batteries.

Interesting, have you got a link to the one you got? Ryobi garden tools look substantially cheaper and will be used much less frequently so would be good to have one that uses same batteries.

Grrrr my drill has just died on me about 10 holes into cutting 12 holes with a 114mm hole saw in birch ply.

I've been taking it really steady and not forcing it, though the hole saw arbor keeps coming loose which has been frustrating.

It's only just out of warranty too :( Presume there's not much point paying to get it fixed when i can get a new one for circa £90? (It's a Dewalt DCD795)

I quite like the Milwaukee stuff. I bought a C18PD hammer drill in 2013 with 2x 3Ah batteries for around £230. It has had a very hard life and keeps on going. I bought my brother the newer M18PD and bundled impact driver (M18ID?) and he has abused his a lot too without any issues. I have been expanding my milwaukee 18v and 12v tools over the years and can't fault any of their kit.

My DCD795 started to die after around 7 or 8 years. It still works but not brilliantly. I just replaced it with a DCD996 which is a significant upgrade. Little bit heavier.

Funnily enough i've also picked up the 996. Probably would've been fine with the 796 but for £20 it'll be handy having the extra power for bigger holes.

Mines fully dead, smoke coming out. Presume the motor was overworked with the holesaws.

I'm running a 796 and a 996, and as amazing as the 996 is even on the lowest power it was hard work drywalling with it and much preferred the 796, I know they are different animals but might be worth matching to your needs. The 996 fills a nice gap between an SDS and the 796 which I need but I may swop it for a 997 and have the ability to program each setting to match the job I'm doing.

Ah interesting. Being able to program each setting would be handy. Seems the 797 also allows that and is only £73

Might see if i can cancel and swap to that.

Yes it does and also the 888 impact driver, but I find the 796 standard settings pretty spot on.

Will see if FFX can cancel my order. They've closed the call centre so that's unhelpful and the 996 is meant to be delivered before i can expect a response!

Yep and the 996 is quite hefty compared to the 795/6. If you were putting up a ceiling for example I reckon you'd feel the difference after not too long.

Just bought a lovely Bosch planer, excitedly unpacked it and then got to using it on some oak sleepers.

Cuts through the oak like butter. Lovely..

then I pack up for the day. I swear it took me 10 minutes to get the damn thing back in the box.

Some moulded plastic tool boxes make me lose my mind. It's like a puzzle !
