** PRE ORDER YOUR NEXT GENERATION CONSOLE AT OVERCLOCKERS UK **

OMG.....what a rip off.

I'll wait for a big price drop. £589 is stupid money. M$ wont sell many...only hardcore gamers will buy...

The only stupid thing, is you and many others not reading. That isn't the price.

Along with all the others taking stuff as gospel that MS is refusing to comment on. Like resale game price.

The introduction price of the ps3 was about £100 less and didn't come with a major peripheral like kineckt.

The pricing has not been announced yet but we are in line with competitors.

I honestly thought you guys might actually see this as good value.

Console for £600 - 8+ year life cycle.

High end VGA card - 6-12 month life cycle

Yet nobody on here blinks at dropping that sort of money on hardware.

Consoles are becoming a little more advanced. Did anyone actually expect the next gen consoles to be around £300?

Kinect is a a glorified webcam, seriously they will cost MS barely anything, and when they effectively force it on to the customer, the value is greatly reduced.

Why even attempt to justify the price at £600 whilst saying it's not official pricing?

Additionally, not everyone has it at £600, on top of that typically people willing to spend £600 on a single graphics card are likely not going to be interested in consoles.

On top of that, it's still irrelevant, it's not about the actual price, it's about what people have come to expect when it comes to console pricing, and that's not £600.

Why is anyone going to see this as good value when other places are doing pre-orders for £400, and they don't want the money up front?

I still don't understand why so many people have it in for Microsoft - I like them as a company, they do a lot for the developer community (i.e. with Visual Studio which is excellent) as well as their other customers. I have yet to see a better office system than Microsoft Office too - word, excel and the like are simple yet brilliant to use.

Plus Kinect is already being adapted for use in the search and rescue industry due to its excellent sensitivity - so why knock it?

People...

I like how I put it bright yellow block capitals and still nobody gets the message... You skim readers make me sick :p

OK, you just want an interest free loan of circa £300, serious guys, I love OCUK but that price is a total joke, even if you are going to be issuing "refunds"

Can't blame OcUK really - I think it's a clever tactic: charge more than the price will likely be, put the money into a high interest savings account owned by the company, pay back the difference to the pre-order customers in a few months time... profit! I know that's what I'd do, if people don't like it - then don't pre-order it! :D

Of course you can blame them, who else is to blame? They have chosen to do this themselves.

No one is going to pre-order one when they realise the money is taken up front.

Well, one doesn't have to pre-order - they can just buy on, or shortly after release.

Anyway, if you do pre-order then you'll get your money back anyway - it's not a big deal really.

its a nice thought but businesses dont tend to do that.

look guys, i will be honest with you.

we had two options.

1. £20-£50 pre order place holders
2. match major competitors place holder price.

we chose the second. its simple as that.

you can always order closer to the time when it will be updated with official pricing once announced, the place holder places are there for people who want their names first on the list.

personally i wouldnt stand outside a highstreet store for days waiting to be the first to get the new console, but other people do and I can appreciate why.

there are some people who want to avoid that faff entirely and just get their order in first, avoid the queues, beat the demand and have a guaranteed console on day one with no drama.

this is for them.

guys, if the price bothers you, hold fire until we have official pricing.

My estimate personally is that if the major competition are pricing it at this sort of level for a place holder, then it wont be that much cheaper.

That's not really true, the main issue isn't the price you've got it up for, it's the fact that you take payment upfront for the full amount.

No one else is doing this.

So this major competitor you're talking about, their price is irrelevant.

Why not match Zavvi instead of looking at Amazon which is at least an order of magnitude bigger than OcUK?

Either way, neither of them take full payment up front. They all say that they will take payment on dispatch, not up front.

I imagine it is also less faff when it comes to ship the things as you dont need to chase people for the rest of it which causes even more confusion/delays when sending out all these orders
