Pre-season Football 2011/2012 Season

Spearing looking woeful alongside Adams. Neither doing anything to help the defence. Guess it's Lucas that brings the best out of him.

I was about to say, I'd be worried if Lucas picked up a serious injury. Spearing does a decent job alongside somebody like Lucas but the positional side of his game isn't good enough to be the most defensive midfielder in the side.

Begs the question, how well can Adams and Lucas play together given both like to see a lot of the ball.

2-1

In case anybody thinks otherwise, I'm not comparing Adam to Alonso in terms of ability, however a Lucas-Adam midfield isn't too dissimilar to Masch-Alonso midfield. Just like Masch, Lucas is at his best when he wins it and plays it simple.

With us looking like playing a 4-3-3 and the likelihood that Lucas will sit and Adam will play further forward, I'd imagine Adam will have to adapt his game slightly. Rather than picking the ball up from the back like he did at Blackpool, he'll be getting on the ball further forward.

edit: I was listening to talksport earlier and Souness was asked a question about Adam and how much of the ball he'll see and Souness compared it to when he joined us from Boro. He basically said that it's natural that when you're playing with better players, you're not going to be as pivotal to the side and won't see as much of the ball.

That was my main concern with buying him in the first place. Take away the goals and assists from set pieces and he's painfully average and not even close to the quality we need. His performance against Brazils second string proved as much.

As usual, I think you're being overly critical. He's not a superstar but he's not average either. His performances against the likes of Utd and ourselves last season showed that.
Not a bad attempt by Adam there wasnt far away,So who would people rather take our corners next year basing on people being fit?

Adam will almost certainly take our corners and free-kicks when he's on the pitch.

**** it. I don't care if he wants to leave, I want Aquilani to stay. The guy is class.
If we play a 4-2-3-1 Aquilani has to play as the attacking midfielder.

For all of the talk of him wanting to leave he's given 100% in pre-season and not said a word about leaving.

3-3 wonder strike
