Pre-season Football 2011/2012 Season

If we play a 4-2-3-1 Aquilani has to play as the attacking midfielder.

For all of the talk of him wanting to leave he's given 100% in pre-season and not said a word about leaving.

He might not have said anything but his agent has made it clear he wants to stay in Italy for the past 6 months.

And if we are to play 4-2-3-1, Aquilani's not going to get into the side when Suarez is available.

We're the new great entertainers :p

edit: Following on from my post before the game about Johnson playing RB; when Kelly and Flano came on in the 2nd half, Kelly too went to RB. Like with Johnson, you'd expect he'd be far more likely than Flano to play LB come the start of the season. Hopefully that's an indication that we've got a LB lined up.

Apologise for the spam incoming, my way of venting ;)

22 mins in:
Adam's been crap, Carroll's been crap, Henderson's been crap, Downing's looked best of a load of crap but nothing special.. thats about it

25 mins:
Agger's looked immense, rest of our back 4 look like they haven't played together all summer ;) (and to be fair, they haven't). Most worrying is our midfield .. completely anon

30 mins: How did Johnson not score.. also: where did Carra find that speed from? :o More of the same unfortunately :( midfield still terrible, Carroll not linking play at all either. Agger looks our best attacking and defensive option.

37 mins: first 'good' attacking play imo, Robinson's cross leading to the Carroll dive ;)

41 mins: Henderson starting to link play a bit, which is good .. Adam and Spearing have been invisible. Downing's first decent ball results in a goal by Carroll, terrible defending though..

45: HT.. wow we were bad. Agger only stand out player. Henderson started to get better but otherwise ..

50 mins: Adam again with the wrong decision, could have played Henderson in :(

55 mins: Change of formation seems to be working .. 4-3-3 > 4-4-2, although Downing's crossing has been abysmal

61 mins: Our midfield's gone back to first half anon mode..

68 mins: Subs! I hope we get better because we've been a 3/10 so far.

77 mins: Still seen nothing worth mentioning, i hope the pain ends soon lol

78 mins: Good chance! good ball by downing.. they've been few and far between for the entire team.

81 mins: Aquilani's been on for 2 mins, already MOTM.. good shot, great corner..

87: Aquilani again .. immense passing, shooting boots clearly on too.. and another assist. We need Adam for corners what?

90 mins: and the sucker punch :(

Over all .. Agger, made of glass :( i wish he wasn't, great player.
Aquilani .. can't believe people don't rate him.
Everyone else - poor

City looked like they were playing against a poor side yesterday. The amount of space they gave inter would have lost them a lot of goals against better opposition.

City have got a quality squad but that is a pretty poor inter team and they looked sluggish and devoid of quality in a number of positions.

They had also played against celtic the day before I think.

I am very much looking forward to seeing Aguero in action though. Hopefully he will be good, but not too good on sunday.

I'm going to cry if we get rid of Aquilani - apart from Suarez he's our most dangerous player. The rest of the bunch looked poor at best - we badly need a LB and CB.

Amount of space?
They barely had any, they had enough quality players on the pitch to if they had the chance/space score goals. Our defence and midfield was world class on sunday and gave no space to Inter, Hence why Sneijder was so poor and none of the forwards got many chances.

He wont be playing on Sunday. At max 15mins unless necessary.

Mancini wont put him in such a big game when he has never played with any of the team before.

The team that will play is 99% going to be what we played v Inter.
Maybe Clichy in place of Kolarov if he is feeling ok.

The Community Shield a big game? It's a glorified friendly, if anything it's the perfect game to play Aguero in.

I didnt see the first half but in the second, inter had loads of space down the right but lacked the legs and quality to do anything. They have a decent enough squad but its not great. I would wager that only 3-4 players in their team would get into citys team or any of the top 4-5 teams in england.

First half in terms of possession it was very equal, Inter just didn't have the cutting edge to do anything offensively whereas City found it fairly easy to create chances. In truth the two teams cancelled each other out.... probably why I turned it off at half time and missed most of the goals in the game.

Hmm, by the time I tuned in, Inter were looking decidedly slow and sluggish and there for the taking. There was tonnes of space all over the pitch but Inter didn't have the legs to mount any fast paced counter attacks and seemed to be resigned to corners and shots from range.

Hopefully Sneijder wants to play for a better team and will come to united asap!

Watched the Arsenal Koln game randomly early when I channel surfed into it.

Arsenal were pretty crap, Arshavin looks like he's spent the summer eating all of the pies.

To be fair City played the day before Inter as well. I expect both teams have big enough squads and are professional enough to handle this situation.

I don't expect to see Aguero in that game but it would be nice. And despite a good pre season I doubt Wright Phillips will get a start in the team. Mancini said the same himself. But he'd be a good buy for someone. Liverpool?

I have to say that all in all, I was fine with our performance against Valerenga last night.

Aquilani and Agger were both impressive. Henderson had a slow start but started to get into things a bit more later on. I actually thought that Downing did quite well, a few times he found Carroll bang on with crosses which is promising. Adam seemed a little restricted to me, I feel that Adam is best when pushing forward a la Gerrard, but he seemed a little like he was holding back in midfield too much. Johnson was pretty decent with his forward play and played some good balls up the wing, sadly his rear play was woeful and time and again he let Valerenga past him at RB. Spearing appeared frankly dreadful and at times looked a league behind everyone.

Again it highlighted the need for the defence needing strengthening but other than that, up against a team who are halfway through their season and so up to full speed on match fitness and play, it wasnt too bad really. Carroll lacked for a decent partner up front as Kuyt didnt seem at the races, things may well be different there with Suarez back. I saw the beginnings of some promising looking link play between various players who will still be gelling together as a unit. Get those defenders signed and I'll be reasonably content for the start of the season.

Keeping hold of Aquilani looks an obvious thing to do , though I suppose one could argue that maybe he is playing so well to put himself in the shop window to get a transfer and once the window shuts he might step back off the pedal, only time can say on that I suppose.

Interesting, Liverpool the most expensive day out. Probably made worse by your hubcaps being nicked.

That's a complete load of crap though as every ticket at Anfield costs the same price (might be £4 difference between cheapest and most expensive).

If they'd done average price we'd be well behind most of the London clubs and Man Utd.

Not really true though is it? I mean, cheapest day out would be the price of a ticket.. you don't need a pie and drink for a poxy 90 min match.

Also, all our seats are the same, some of the other clubs 'cheapest' seats are limited to less then 50 restricted view tickets, good luck getting those.
