Premier League Fixtures - 16/17th August (Spoilers)

Pretty much the perfect start to the league really. Arsenal win, Man United draw, Spurs lose, and Hull get a win. Top notch. :D

Nasri's goal was pure Arsenal aceness. The strikers had an off day, but I'm willing to give Ade more games before decrying him as woeful/uncaring/a disaster. Didn't drunkenmaster declare Bendtner a better forward than Ade the other day? Yeah, he really did so much better didn't he?

You probably should have won, given Given's spoony head-save, and some penalty calls, but let's not forget some facts here:

Giggs was decent yesterday.
Newcastle played well, and attacked you quickly. You couldn't always deal with it well enough.
Your passing was dire at time, especially in the second half.
Likewise, you utterly failed to come out and push for the game in said second half. Compared to the first it was deathly dull for most of it.

The only major move he was involved in was where Vidic tracked back and made the tackle.

Which tackle was that? I remember Vidic running into him and bringing him down because he couldn't make the tackle.

Jonas was pretty good in the first half as well, but at that point Milner, Duff and Martins were more involved. In the second half Martins and Duff were quieter and as a result Gultierrez stood out more.

2nd half, Man Utd box, Vidic racing back to catch him, best tackle of the game.

He also said RvP was better than Bergkamp. Eboue was great, and some classic about Eboue being better than Hleb. Perhaps he is Eboue?!

Giggs was awful yesterday, as was every single one of his corners and free kicks.
He just cannot take a corner, they have no pace, they are not aimed at anyone, he just lumps them in, they drop almost straight down with no pace on them for anyone to direct it towards the box.

Coloccini started off badly, after about twenty minutes I though we'd signed another Boumsong.

Gutierrez may have just been a lot of running but our team last year was completely lacking in pace, at least now we have a player who can power forward and get the whole team moving forward.

People may be easily pleased, true, but most of those comments are from non-Newcastle fans and none are from me.

One thing I did notice about Newcastle that I forgot to mention was, when they planted all 11 players in their half, which they did for the entirety of the 2nd half with the aim of breaking past Brown with a long ball over the top, Duff would stand on the half-way line and he was noticeably urging his team to push forward into our half. In the end it was quite clear that he was getting very frustrated with his teammates and their lack of forward support.

He was constantly telling people what to do, where to cover etc... From that aspect I was very impressed, was he your captain? He never struck me as captain material before, but he wasn't afraid to give his team some instructions.

Actually, for a change his corners had real whip and venom in them. He also changed it up by trying what Arteta did from a tight angle. Yesterday his set-pieces were pretty damn good, and his performance, especially his calmness on the ball and ghosting between players with or without the ball was much more like the Giggs of 5 years ago.

I guess he wants that contract extension.

He was everywhere yesterday, his off the ball movement was exceptional. The minute he went off we did absolutely nothing, I think that goes to show he was doing something right.

I must admit though, when I was sat there I was thinking "Surely even atpbx will rate Giggs and slate Rooney after today!", I was wrong. :p.

Happy Birthday by the way matey, hope you have a good 'un.

Butt was captain yesterday. Duff as captain is probably a good shout, the only problem is I doubt he will play all the games this season. I'm not a huge fan of Owen as captain, I don't think leading by example is enough, you need someone to keep everyone under control like Keane or someone like that.

Happy Birthday John boy, you old ******* :p

I only caught the second half so i cant comment on giggs, we badly missed Carrick though from what i saw

Butt head was captain.

Ooops beaten!

Thanks :)

But, you must have been watching a different Giggs, I was watching the welsh one, who kept passing to the other side and generally being rubbish, you know the one, plays for man u?

I'm sure everyone here is aware of what I say about Giggs on a regular basis, so he must have done something right for me to praise him. He really was excellent yesterday.

I'll agree regarding Giggs, he was one of our only threats yesterday. What peeved me second half was that the ball CONSTANTLY went down the left hand side in the last 20 minutes. Evra is good but he's no left winger and O'Shea isn't the best at getting down the wing.

Rafael came on and we still kept going down the left, it was frustrating. Fletcher also stopped getting into the box after his goal which was a shame as he was probably our biggest goal threat (and I said that to myself before the game too).
