Last season we absolutely destroyed Fulham. Our midfield that day? Rosicky Flamini Fabregas Hleb. Compare that to today's midfield and all you can do is laugh. The drop in quality is not so much a step as a bloody leap off a skyscraper. Our style of play is just a mess now with no clear aim to it. Wenger has a clear vision for the way he wants our midfield to play football and create chances so it's utterly bemusing that he's seemingly satisfied going in to this season knowing that two players who just can't play that way - Eboue and Walcott - will almost certainly play a large part in our season and on the pitch at the same time.
What is this Eboue central midfield experiment all about? Are we really that desperate? It's embarrassing. I really can't work out why Wenger set the midfield out as he did today. Surely Eboue and Walcott on the wings, with Nasri and Denilson in the centre would have been a better line-up? The telling thing about today is that Eboue was rubbish, again, but was probably in our top 5 performers of the day. I had to laugh when the camera cut to Wenger just after the second half had kicked off, puffing his cheeks and shaking his head as if what was happening on the pitch was unbelievable considering our immense midfield. Sometimes I really do just wonder about Wenger..
Denilson. Dear oh dear. Not good enough, but I've been saying that for months. Always said that apart from some neat and tidy short passing he doesn't offer a whole lot, but today he couldn't even pass. Atrocious. In all seriousness that was probably one of the worst performances I've seen from an Arsenal player ever. Walcott was terrible also. Nasri tried hard, but his ideas didn't come off often and he suffered from the lack of quality around him. Set-pieces were poor.
Ade was okay, RVP was crap. His free kicks were a joke.
Gallas can be blamed for us not coming away from this with a point though. His defending, if it can even be called that, was lazy and the polar opposite of what you'd expect from your captain. Hang your head in shame.
Sagna was also poor, probably his worst performance since arriving, but I can forgive him. He's been a rock of consistency since we signed him and he can afford an off day.
Song was good when he came on. Played the best ball of the match within minutes and did more in the little time he had than Denilson or Eboue did the whole match to be fair. IMO should get a chance to partner Cesc in midfield.
