Premier League Hall of Fame

As expected, two MU players. Not clear to me how many of the remaining four players to be announced this week will be based on fan votes, but you'd imagine Scholes will be incoming and potentially Schmeichel.

Why would Brad Friedel be in the opening ballot for a 30-year Premier League Hall of Fame, a list which contains only one goalkeeper, when numerous better and more decorated keepers are not?

Being decorated isn't the be all and end all. 450 games and one of the best goalkeepers the PL has ever seen, he should be in there.

You can't be serious, he was good but would you seriously put him ahead of Seaman, Schmeichal, Cech etc?

Absolutely am serious. Can't put him ahead of Schmeicel but I'd put him up against any other keeper the PL has seen.

Granted some bias is coming into play as I love the man, but he was unbelievable.

It isn't and also shouldn't be - Shearer and Le Tissier attest to that - although those who have contributed to great success will inevitably be the primary contenders here. Schmeichel was the obvious first choice for a keeper vote, Seaman will be next, probably Cech next in line. However, I can't recall any period of time where Friedel was critically regarded as the best keeper in the division, much less over a sustained period of time or at a higher level, and he has no domestic success to fall back on. He wouldn't even be an outside contender here (imo).

Well, he was in the PFA team of the season early 00s so he was at least recognised as being the best keeper in the league to some people, at one point in time. He was and is criminally underrated. He was worth 25 points a season to Blackburn.

I'm more inclined to side with players who performed at the highest level when not in the best teams, which is why I'd always take Shearer over Henry for the best striker the PL has seen.

That being said I can see the argument for the likes of Cech and Seaman, even Mark Schwarzer or Shay Given but i'll keep my super Brad.

It's a bit of a PR farce, no way Gerrard should be in before Scholes. This was always going to be silly though.

It is a fan vote and Manchester United fans have a lot more to sift through than other clubs. You could list 10+ worthy from United whereas I would struggle to think of 5 for Liverpool and that would skew the vote.

Ashley Cole really should have been one of those six. He was the best left back in the world for a good half a decade but no one likes him. :P

I don't think the ordering means much tbh, except perhaps for the 2 inaugural members in Shearer and Henry (that's hard to argue with).

Elephant in the room is Giggs, but while he has this court case hanging over him they were always going to keep him out of it.

Final spot I assume goes to Scholes, but you never know.

Yet they've included someone who purposely ended another players career and a violent Frenchman who Kung Fu kicked a fan in half.

In truth, the list is a who's who of scumbags. Alcoholics, drug addicts, adulterers, racists and half of them have been charged with assault at some point during their careers.
