Yet they've included someone who purposely ended another players career

Is this myth still being spun? :p

Following the release of Keane's autobiography in 2002, Håland and Manchester City stated that they were considering taking legal action against Keane. However, it emerged that Håland had stated on his personal website that he had been playing with the injury to his left knee a few months, that his left leg did not receive a knock in the game (Keane kicked his right thigh), and that Keane did not cause his long term injury.[17][18][19] Legal action was dropped in February 2003 after the club reviewed the medical advice.[20]

Yet they've included someone who purposely ended another players career and a violent Frenchman who Kung Fu kicked a fan in half.

In truth, the list is a who's who of scumbags. Alcoholics, drug addicts, adulterers, racists and half of them have been charged with assault at some point during their careers.
They might be scumbags, but they aren't scumbags currently in the news for being scumbags with verdicts hanging over them.
The point I'm making is, it's not about whether someone is a scumbag or not, it's about the likelihood of them being a scumbag causing a controversy in close proximity to their induction into the HoF, and hence causing bad publicity for the PL.

Didn't care for this when it came out but thoroughly enjoyable seeing people get riled up by it.

Which is exactly why the names are being drip-fed. I’m pretty sure the powers that be have already agreed the first 20-30 inductees but releasing them all at once in a single press release wouldn’t generate as many column inches as a ‘fan vote’ (does anyone seriously believe the votes have any bearing on the result here?) and slow release of names.

It's not that unbelievable to me, given there is a curated shortlist, so the fans can only vote for players that the powers that be think are potentially worthy in the first place. Cantona in the first tranche after the inaugural Shearer/Henry for example strikes me as someone voted in by fans, I'm not sure a panel would put him above every else, given he only played 5 years in the PL and sported controversy.

Beckham was good but I'm not convinced he should be inducted at the expense of Scholes, who had a longer PL career. Doesn't say in the FAQ how many inductees there will be next year.
