it's about customer convenience, not just price.
Such a valid point and this is why high street retailers can still do well given the online competition.

Reminds me of conversation I had at work a few weeks back with a colleague about doing some DIY where the same convenience/cost argument applied . He had a fair amount of painting to do at home and I asked him why he was doing it rather than getting someone else in. He told me that if he did the work (which would have taken a couple of weekends) he could save himself a few hundred pounds.

I then told him that instead of doing that he could work just the one weekend at our place on the overtime rates, and not only would he be able to pay someone else to do the work but he would also be taking extra money home.

For once my "popular high street electronics store" seems to have better prices for the things said, the best ones though from us is the car aerial adapters, we sell them for 1.99, halfords, 4.99.
5a consumer unit fuse, B&Q - 3.20, us - 79p.
USB A-B cables are 3.99
oh and halfords also have a toggle switch and cover, which they sell as a kit, for £16, or you could buy both, separately for just over £2 from us.

Saying that all the computer component prices are ridiculous

I think this all goes to show that it's always a good idea to shop around.

Like the AA saying they'll have the cheapest quote for car insurance? It only took me three calls to save around £80.

If your a gamer the biggest rip off stores are Game,HMV and Pretty Crap world. Game sell their pre-owned games for more than I pay for new games.

Just wondering can competitor names be typed if they are mentioned in a non competitional way such s when your talking about something that ocuk don't stock or never in any circumstance?

My worst was going to town searching for a SCART lead to hook me dvd player upto the tv. A well known electrical high street store were selling them for...£29.99  All because they were oxygen free buggers. Went to Argos and got the same thing for £13.99. They all take the pies, especially one's selling NV FX5200's gpu's at high prices still.

I take great pride in picking up the above card, and commenting in a rather loud voice, on how you can pick up a card 20 times the speed for just £5 more :D

I think you're missing the point that he might quite probably prefer to spend his weekends at home, even if he's doing DIY, rather than going into work yet again and having workmen wandering about the house for days.

Nope, no point being missed, he was quite pleased that I made that suggestion to him. He really didn't want to do the DIY but at the time he thought he had to save money.

You should see the electronic shop prices for Graphics Cards in ipswich!!!!

They had a XFX 5200 Geforce 128mb for something stupid like £80!

And some guy's going to go in there thinking its some uber graphics card.

Daylight...........

There is a huge difference between a good and cheapo, standard scart lead.

Mark up on cables is very good.
Very true. I used to work in a high street electronics place, they used to buy in gold plated scart leads for ~50p each (admittedly bulk discount included) and sell them for £9.99

or make it yourself £30 for 100m

Or pick a box out of a skip after some contractors are done, and order a bag of ends and a crimping tool. £30 for about all the cat5 you could ever want.

I once seen that on the back office computer when the manager was on it, its shocking the prices they buy it in for. But then all the other places are just as bad.

When I moved moved in to my new flat 4 months ago, me and my wife took it as a matter or pride to do all the painting ourselves. It took absolutly ages of and on and off work and by the time we had got round to finishing painting everywhere some 3 months later we were really sick of it, but took pride in the fact that we had done it all ourselves, and saved a good 400-500 quid.

Just as bad?

It's called business, by cheap and sell expensive.

If you didn't then you would have a rubbish business and/or charity.

WE CAN'T WIN !!!
You know, and this is just an idea - just throwing it out there to see where it lands, you could always buy the item for the cheapest price.

And if you find something in a shop for a tenner, and you can sell it on ebay for a monkey - by a few hundred and sell them for some profit.

Seems like winning to me.
