Prison

Stop assuming he beat someone half to death, you're getting all angry at him and you don't even know what he might have done, nor did he want you to tell him you hope he has a horrible time, he wanted to know what to expect.

there was a trail prison program on tv last night ,where by they send naughty young men to a prison for a couple of weeks to show them what its like .
Seemed like a great idea until one of the guys started shouting and screaming in his cell that he wanted to go home after just a few hours and they let him go :eek::confused:
What a waste of time :rolleyes:

Exactly, it doesn't take much to get done for GBH iirc, just a breaking of the skin..
wrong. A simple cut won't do it. GBH requires grievous bodily harm, which has been variously described by judges, but the simplest is probably an amount of harm that is 'something that is serious'. For example, branding someone with your initials is only ABH. Whipping someone enough that infected wounds ensue that are bad enough that the person needed to go to hospital was seen as ABH. Now I'm not usually a proponent of CPS guidelines as they're usually pretty baseless, but in this circumstance they do give a decent general idea of what is meant by GBH with their examples:
* injury resulting in permanent disability or permanent loss of sensory function;
* injury which results in more than minor permanent, visible disfigurement; broken or displaced limbs or bones, including fractured skull;
* compound fractures, broken cheek bone, jaw, ribs, etc;
* injuries which cause substantial loss of blood, usually necessitating a transfusion;
* injuries resulting in lengthy treatment or incapacity;
* psychiatric injury. As with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, appropriate expert evidence is essential to prove the injury.

So you really have to mess the person up. If the CPS think there's any chance they'll lose a GBH case they bring one based on ABH - often they will go for ABH if the person agrees to plead guilty in any case. There is no way that GBH can be characterised as anything, but the infliction of a potentially life altering wound.

Was that on channel 5?

well going by that anyone done for gbh should go down no questions ,trouble is they often don't even on a second offence :confused:

Get someone to send you a HIS 4850 GPU when you're on the inside....comes with a free shank with a torch attached!

End of next week I get sentenced - its for Section 20 which isn't the serious one so the worse I can get is 5 years - brief told me to expect 2-3. This happened a good while ago and I haven't been in any trouble since. I don't know what happened but I was drunk and lashed out and used a bottle on someone who was winding me up. It was a fight with another lad - nothing to do with women or children like somebody said.Never did anything like it before and won't do it again but it happened. Have a bit of a record but nothing too serious.

I'm 24 so I know I will get prison not young offenders. Going to court in London so don't know where I might end up when I get sent down. It's been hanging over me for nearly a year now and I think about this every day but loads more now.

Don't expect it to be easy - know people say it is but don't think they've been there if they say that. Think people talk crap about what its like .

Can't imagine being locked up for 23 hours in a cell and not being able to get out. I like being able to do my own thing and meet up with mates so think that'll take getting used to. Can look after myself OK - do a bit of boxing as well as the footie so am not too worried about that. Wouldn't mind being able to spend time in the gym if I get it.

I think it will be OK when I get used to it but just being new and not knowing what to expect or whos who just gets to me - don't want to stand out and look like a pushover.

Thanks for the link to that other forum btw

he will have to spend sometime in a cat b local until he is farmed out to cat c depending on risk assessments etc, all prisons now have the core day which means bang up from friday at 5 until monday morning with only exercise periods in between its cost cutting by the service cos its saves on staffing :rolleyes:

Locked up all weekend. That would do my head in. How long do you have to do in the local place before I might get transferred to a Cat C - know they are better

keep your head down (not a pun)

choose your friends very carefully, lend no-one nothing, if you smoke stop,
and most importantly reflect on your life, and ensure you don't ever go back in

Why would I need to stop smoking - not banned is it? Thought evrybody would smoke with it being so boring

Just a rough guess , so you can "trade" the cigs , oh and part from the obvious health reasons :)

It entirely depends on what kind of person you are.

I know people who have been destroyed by prison. It has changed them into a shell of their formers selves.

However, I know others who have come out and actually want to go back because it is easier and less hassle than life on the outside. I'm sure you can guess what kind of people they are!

Due to this countries pathetic criminal justice system, you will only serve half or even a quarter of your sentence.

I think i would have died due to the wait, thinking about it every day. Its like you have already served a years sentence. Good luck with it, hope its not as bad as its sometimes made out.

What a crap thing to say there might have been genuine reason for his actions.

Are there ever genuine reasons for GBH??

At most, there's reasons for ABH, but GBH is just the guy going a bit nuts and caving someone's lung in, breaking some bones etc etc.

I have no sympathy for the OP. Stop when they're incapacitated, learn a martial art, will teach you restraint among other things, which is essential in such situations that violence is unavoidable.

Anyway, on a brighter note, if Porridge has taught me anything... :rolleyes:
