Pro Cycling Discussion 2017

spoiler needed! :(

Tao crashed & ruined his effort mentioned on the side of the page! Doh!

Bit of a joke really, it's a 'TT course'. They should opt for one or the other, not 'both'.

I get those crashing a TT bike and not having a TT bike backup (juniors/womens) but the men generally have no excuse!

Oliviera would have come very close to pinching bronze of Froome, if he had either made a far better job of switching bikes, or not bothered at all and continued on his TT bike.

Tour de Yorkshire 2018 is now four days for men and two days for women - excellent.

Organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O had been seeking to extend the race after its phenomenal success over the last three years, and cycling’s world governing body the UCI confirmed the decision on Thursday with the four-day Tour de Yorkshire being included on their 2018 Europe Tour calendar between Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th May.

Some great racing this week - looking forward to the races over the weekend, especially Tom Pidcock going in the Junior RR tomorrow.

It's a conspiracy!

He hid in the bushes and waited for his mate to pull the plug on the TV pictures then jumped in and nobody noticed.

[X-Files theme tune] Another "romantic" cycling event result, 2017 is full of 'em... [/X-Files theme tune] ;)

Hahah what with the couple of posts on Twitter about him "not being interested in the WC"...! #bossedit

Great, although does that mean they'll also extend the Tour of Britain?

Shame he was largely unseen (apart from the commentators naming him multiple times lol). Can't remember his name but fantastic ride by the tall British lad in the break, just a shame they couldn't make it stick! Fantastic ride by J. Johansen! Really thought the Italians would have it with 3-4 of them off the front & in the break towards the end!

Last one of the year tomorrow! no idea on who is riding but Itll no doubt be entertaining as usual for lombardy.

Insane De Plus crash/launch over barrier! Glad to hear he's OK but a shame he's out as was going well :(

Have to say I really enjoyed Lombardia this year and the World Championships. Although I totally & utterly missed the mens race due to baby arrival but watched all of the rest!

Eurosport coverage via their app has been superb, although sometimes the timing of the recordings 'OnDemand' are utterly junk when the previous program (snooker/tennis etc) over-runs so you have to skip past it, this does mean you can also miss the end of the cycling footage unless you know what was on the schedule afterwards to track it down as it'll be on that sports footage. #annoying

Also random footage of races without any commentary, when those with commentary are missing. Errr...!

Also have to mention those listed under the foreign titles and you skip past them until you realise that 'mondiale championnats du homme' is english footage of the mens world championships, whereas the rest of the english footage was listed with english names... WUT

Also what's the point on 'catch up TV' when you have less than a week to 'catch up' before it's removed from the service?!

Maybe it's not been that superb! :p

Key points seem to be:
  • Not much TTing
  • Cobbles on the stage to Roubaix
  • Gravel roads on the stage to Grand-Bornand

That 65km stage will be interesting. Not a lot of climbing full stop from my initial browsing. Guessing they've made it shorter to account for the smaller teams and see how it goes before going back to a normal length or possibly increasing number of teams.

^ awful :(

I know lower level races which don't have full road closure use a rolling road block with the main body off the peloton. Once you're off the back you're on open roads. Didn't think this was the case on higher profile stage races? or perhaps just fatal marshalling/organisation error?

Tour De Yorkshire route profiles are up! Stage 4 (Halifax to Leeds) looks particularly formidable and has lots of climbs I ride frequently. Can't wait to see the pros annihilate my Strava times on them. Stage 2 has a 'summit' finish on the Cow and Calf on Ilkley moor as well. I imagine the crowds for that one will be pretty epic.
