Pro Cycling Discussion 2019

Quintana doing nothing yet again.

That weather today was grim! Wonder how much it affected the race today. Good rides from. Fuglsang and poels to gain time and for the win respectively. Hopefully tomorrow will be entertaining for the last stage.

Would be nice but I'm doubting it. The footage was shocking. Streamed by 4G on what seemed like camera phones from two motorbikes in a 3G area. Really choppy, the commentators did a good job regardless but in the final few miles we even had laggy footage so the audio was 10s ahead... we heard who won before the footage even showed them on the finish straight.

Would have been nice to see some proper footage of Swift's chase to Stannard. Only caught the glimpse of him flying by.

The time trial was similarly poor footage. A finish line webcam with a commentator standing next to it. Quick flash of the riders as they whizz by at the end.

Sounds the same as last year!

No Cav at the TDF this year :(

True, he's clearly still suffering with this epstein Barr stuff, if he's not competing as much as he can sell kit and gets coverage if he's only there for a few days it doesn't help.

Missed them in my quick glance, looking forward to the next couple now, maybe a breakaway day in one of them with a tough few days to come. Good finish today, thought dylan g was going to come by and couldn't believe my eyes. Looks like teunison could be the man in form though!

Great stage again today passing the exact place I stayed a couple of years ago and taking the alternative route to la planche des belles filles. Always gold to see them tackle the roads you've ridden, although depressing.

Brilliant for ciccone, not surprised at all by alaphaloppe being there at the end. Gauntlet laid by g on a finish that he definitely did not enjoy a few years ago. Although it wasn't hugely explosive with the climbs before meaning many looked like they were riding to a target knowing there are a good few weeks to come.

Watched just the finish earlier and now watching the highlights. How wva managed to fall off the back get back on and then smash it into those last kms. Madness. Groenevegan winning at last! But only just, showed how strong he is though launching first and still winning.

Incredible finish! Great ride from tdg, hadn't seen it from. Him yet so thought he was struggling but he's still got it! The carnage from that crash! It looked so innocuous how it snapped the pinarello, but could have been worse with that wall there!

Crash really did look innocuous didn't it? Hard to spot as think the only footage shows a EF rider wiping out and the SkyIneos train bulldozing into him, Ef rider jumps up and is gone before Ineos are even all standing haha.

Woods lost 14 minutes that day, so don't think that was the EF guy getting up.

Wow. Carnage today again. Echelons are gloriously beautiful! Just not for Thibaut Pinot and so many others. Fantastic sprint out too! Wva is just an animal to win with minimal lead out!

Should be a couple of good days coming up, maybe not so much Wednesday, but Thursday is built for a breakaway with the ITT the day after and then straight into the Tourmalet!

This years Tour has been pieced together quite well with different key attributes across each week and a last week backload but not so huge it has caused the first week to be dull like the Giro was. It should provide some good entertainment as the attacks will be coming from now on from a large number of riders after yesterday.

Thinking back, I can't think since Sky got destroyed in 2016 Vuelta I think it was when not paying attention at the beginning of a short stage they've been caught out by crosswinds or missed the big moves in any GT since, no matter what you say about their ethics/performance, the key decision making behind them is absolutely top notch which is a shame for their rivals as it does mean they generally have to beat them on the road in a straight fight which is only going to happen if something catastrophic goes wrong it seems.

He didn't even bother contesting it, so Froome now becomes the first British GT winner.

Dull stage yesterday, got to be a breakaway today with the TT tomorrow, doubt anyone will want to go too deep and then blow away a shed load of time unable to ride tomorrow/saving themselves for the weekend.

I'm hoping that Alaphillipe holds onto Yellow and lives with Thomas and Bernal in the mountains, it would then start to get really interesting at the top. Unfortunately I can't see it playing out like that, but you never know.

Boring day as expected, but great win for Yates, played the mini sprint perfectly heading into the corner first.

More I read about Dennis' withdrawal, the more it is unsettling. Really hope nothing bad mentally is going on, as that's what it sounds like.

How much will the top 10 differ after today? Expecting some big rides from the top 3, I reckon Richie Porte could jump up the order a bit, as could Uran if he does one of his good TT rides.

Incredible tt from Julian alaphillipe. Will be interesting to see how everything is tomorrow with dqs supporting him and mas. Can the team support them, envisaging a cracking day tomorrow as its short can see it going off early.

My shouts of uran and Thomas did well!

I didn’t see any massive attacks and crazy racing today?

Just a 20km grind with leaders being dropped every few km from a reducing bunch while Movistar/FDJ worked the front.
Agreed, yesterday was a very odd day purely attrition it seemed, today on the other hand was awesome! Great win for Yates and great racing from everyone finishing in the top 10, attacks, Counters, battles back and a bit of rain! Today had it all.
