Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

TTT world champs snatching up the Australian TT champ, it is a nice fit. I like BMC, Porte is a cool character to add to their roster and I like it.

Porte is a great rider and just a shame he was so much in the shadows at Sky in GT's... Until today!:D

That's a story out of nothing.

When did the data get grabbed? Who grabbed it? What data did they get a hold of? Without knowing any of that sort of info the Guardian cannot make any assumptions or story out of this, yet they have! Morons.
<snip>the tripe the Guardian writes.....

Tripe in the Guardian? Whatever next! ;)

Agreed the data is purely 'numbers from somewhere'. Without it being verified we don't know if it's even his, or even if it's from 2013. It could be Armstrongs data from 2009 doctored to be Froomes ;)

Sky's response was quick and very strong handed, but they generally always are. I imagine, that's not just Sky cyclings legal team behind it.

Wikipedia and stuff has Froome at 71kg. I don't think he weighs anywhere near 11 stone, no way.

As mentioned his ideal weight for the Tour is 67kg. Good article from him in Procycling earlier this year I can dig out if anyone wants me to scan? Has that info in along with his training routines and decisions about form and what to ride. Even a section about him and Contador.

He not like the speed?

Tomorrow might not be his day then?

He's tall, thin and light! I imagine any side winds and he's all over the road! You need weight for descending! ;)

Edit: Can't wait to watch the highlights later after seeing all your responses here! :D

The way Sky were talking when I visited their training camp is very much coming to fruition! incredible result today for them. Shame Porte lost time earlier in, could be right up there overall!

So. Today's stage...

That's the Tour won barring mishap. Superb performance from CF, made visually insane by relatively poor performances from his rivals.

I wish I could climb half as well as that. My goodness.

I was really surprised by how far everyone dropped, even if you compare to Quintana, they were all miles back! Conti, TVG, Nibali (:D) huge time gaps. As you say though, almost there, but long days ahead, and potential banana skins along the way for Froome. Shame really, but hopefully we'll see some good fighting for the lower positions.

I know. When Nibs got dropped I was like :( but when AC got dropped I was like

I don't think I would have been more surprised if Riccardo Ricco appeared from the pack and sprinted 6KM to victory :D

P.S. No, I am not suggesting anything.

HAHA :D

Also Sky top of the Team standing now by 6 minutes. Can't see them losing that, that will be something they want to keep through to Paris, just as much as the Yellow.

Looking at all the classifications, don't want to get ahead of myself, but I really am intrigued to see what Sky will do now, to see if they can win KOM through Porte perhaps, and then look to bring G up to a podium position. Although tomorrow is another day, and after 2013, will have to see how they go first :D

Brutal of Porte to go past Quintana at the end. Absolutely merciless.

Contador in trouble, Nibali absolutely useless. I can't see them coming back from this.

Lol its a race not a party.

I think people are getting pretty ahead of themselves here to be honest. This is the first mountain stage, Froome could easily burn himself out if he carries on in this way, and imho is probably one of the most likely to stack it on a descent and take himself out of the tour.

One crash, flat tyre, illegal feeding (as happened 2 years ago iirc) or hunger flat and that 3 minute gap could come crashing down.

If any of those happen it will be interesting to see if Sky can think outside the box, if they will leave G up the road with Porte possibly as support and use others to pace Froome back on.

I know, but he didn't need to go past Quintana. He's not in contention for GC, his man had done the job. Maybe he's trying to up his price for BMC, or maybe they're trying to break Quintana's spirit a bit.

Thomas. Please. said:

OK, so let's say that barring any mishaps Froome has built himself a pretty decent buffer. Contador could do it. I don't think Nibali can. He gave up on a cat 3 the other day for goodness' sake.

There is bonus time for 1st (10 seconds), 2nd (6 seconds), 3rd (4 seconds).
By taking the 2nd place bonus, he increased Froome's lead over quintana by an extra 2 seconds.

Yep, now we have time bonuses again it would have been silly for Porte not to even try to go past him to help out Froome. He clearly had the legs on Quintana yesterday.

not sure what prioritises, KOM or Young Rider?

Young rider, I'd have thought. Didn't he have both last year but wore the white? The White Movistar jersey looks very cool. Edit: nope, 2013 per Wikipedia.

In related white jersey news, they had some old footage of Contador in a White Saxo Bank jersey which looked great, miles better than their current yellow mess.
