Pro Evolution 2011

Having lost faith with PES after PES6, i've been a FIFA fan for the last few years. However, I decided to take the plunge and have returned to the PES franchise for this years releases, and after a few hours play this morning, I am glad I did.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the FIFA demo (and previous years releases, particularly WC2010) but there is something about PES which just feels more satisfying when you score a goal.

Takes a bit of getting used to the passing (especially since I haven't played PES for years!) but thoroughly enjoying it so far!

went with a mate to pick it up from asda at 12. Played it for 3 hours straight. For the first time since fifa 08 can i say that pes has equalled or bettered fifa!. I love fifa 11 but i also really love this game. This year its too hard to choose, and i guess that's a good thing :D

ps we tried offline masterleague mode, but i couldn't play with him on the same team. Was that a bad gltich or is that how ML is now?
Excellent - keep us posted...

i lost faith and patience after 8 9 and 10.

i LOVE the graphics. i LOVE the shooting. i m better at PES than fifa.

but the inane errors which come up every new PES iteration just frustrate me.

Keepers who cant save the ball. through balls that dont go through anything. terrible AI. player switching switching me at random times or away from the ball. ability to melt a defence with 1 player (messi for instance).

they have improved bits but not fixed the bits that detracted from the overall goodness of fifa anyway

Mind elaborating? What's so good about PES (or bad about Fifa) this time around? Haven't played either yet...

For 3 simple reasons I prefer PES over Fifa..

1) In Fifa it's to easy and thus lacks any skill to score goals (lob through ball to a fast striker = goal every time)

2) The AI runs in straight lines in Fifa meaning that 90% of the time all you have to do is stand in front of the opposition and they'll run into you.

3) When defending in Fifa the AI will always manage to find they're own players when they clear their defence, even if they only have one striker surrounded by four defenders.

PES isn't perfect but imo it's the better game, especially offline.

They can't even be bothered to include a slower game speed option, for those who find the default tempo too fast and unrealistic ... the option is there to increase the game speed though ... makes sense

Ha, yeah! Except, they have... You can change the speed from -2 to +2. Default is 0. That's five speed options.

Woohoo, 40 mins and i can get home and play! Strangely looking forward to starting a career as a centre back in BAL, always played as a striker/ AMF in 10 so looking forward to something different!

Say what ?

So you can slower the game speed on the console version - I was refering to the pc version and you can't slower the game speed, you can only increase the speed with the +1 & +2.

Why would they leave out the option to slower the game speed on the pc

So it's not content enough for them to ruin PES ... they are now excluding settings from the pc version.

Bravo to them.

I bought Fifa 10 last year and played the Fifa 11 demo and compared to PES it felt to me like doing a job, antiseptic somehow. I've always found PES to be more fun and organic. PES11 to me feels as much fun as PES3 and PES6 put together. For offline modes it knocks Fifa into a cocked hat. Also, in my first game I played as Man Utd and the crowd even started chanting the Solskjaer song, complete with an uncensored "Alan Shearer was ****ing dearer....", I kid you not, this is with the default chants. I nearly dropped my pad. Number of fouls has been significantly toned down from the demo as well. I'm really liking the game.

i played the demo again today and its growing on me i have the difficulty set at regular

scoring goals feels a lot better than fifa as i think fifa is just to easy to score and you dont feel in control when scoring goals where as pes you have more control of where the shot is heading.

whats everyone got the speed set at?

and is the full game improved from the demo?

thanks

Early thoughts...

First thing is that it doesn't feel as polished as FIFA, from the menu system right down to the pitch, but that is to be expected, it has never really been better.

The graphics are different, not quite as good overall, but decent all the same, however, the whole PES experience has a sort of old and washed out feel to it.

Obviously the lack of licences are an annoyance, but they will be resolved when the Option File that will fix all the names and kits etc is out for the UK version, very soon.

The sound is no where near as good as FIFA, though it isn't terrible. The commentary is notably worse but the crowd dont sound too bad.

Gameplay. FIFA definitely feels more 'automated' on its default settings, if you go and change it all to Manual its very different but most people ignore that, and it just works against you online.

I can't really say one is better to play than the other, it depends on what you prefer but PES is certainly more of challenge to string moves together on and it does feel slightly more rewarding in some situations when you score a goal, or even come close.

Offline, the AI is much better, it doesn't seem to think ahead of you and you seem to have more room on the pitch, which adds to the realism and doesn't force you to have to pass instantly which can often be an issue on FIFA. The Master League looks pretty good though I haven't looked into it much just yet.

Its difficult to explain how it is better, but plenty of the aspects of the gameplay ARE better than FIFA, and plenty of others aren't.

Controlling your player with the ball for example, can be very hit and miss, where as on FIFA it feels more complete and comfortable to control.

Passing isn't that much different between the two, its slightly harder to pass on PES but you can ping-pong quite a bit and its certainly not 'hard'.

I would say that realism slightly favours PES, FIFA can feel somewhat automatic at times and that can be annoying.

Shooting seems more challenging too, you can usually tell immediately on FIFA if you will hit the target or not, its not always so clear on PES, which adds some extra suspense!

Online seems quite fine, no lag and its certainly not as punishing as FIFA, where you make one small error and it WILL cost you a goal, finishing is much, much harder on PES too.

All in all, I'm impressed, I would still say at the early stages at the moment that FIFA is the better game overall but that is subject to change.

Oh, and it doesn't feel that much different to the demo but there are a few tweaks here and there, so if you aren't sure about it, give the demo a few hours and see if it grows on you!

Any questions, ask :p

Keep posting on the experience especially how you favour Offline/Online versus the two games.

Im tempted to get PES for the offline experience - heard of Master League but never had a chance to play it...
