Pro Evolution 2011

I've played this over the weekend and I really like it (although i've loved all of them and genuinely can't see what the fuss is about when people say it's taken a backwards step).

The manual passing was a bit awkward to get get used to but now I much prefer it to the assisted settings.

It's definitely not as quick and easy to pass from the back to up top as it was before and it all the games don't seem the samey. I'm playing the ML on Top Player with the old school players (Minanda etc) and from having an open game vs Sunderland to then having a really congested foul fest with Bolton makes this interesting, so you really have to change tactics.

Really really enjoying this version of PES and i've only played the ML and not the other parts of the game :)

Training > Free Kicks > Roll the ball into the penalty area and press X/A :)

Also, edit: Having played a few more games, I am liking it more and more, the gameplay just feels so much more involving than FIFA, and the player AI is leaps ahead. I have the Option File setup now too and it tidies the game up nicely, come Tuesday with all the extra Konami adjustments it will be even better! :D

Cheers for the heads up, I think I've got it sussed, bottom corner every time now :D
Maybe I should practice with someone other than Lampard though, in a penalty shootout I'll have to resort to at least a couple of players who aren't going to be as good as he is at them…

I find pens easier if you use the dpad instead of the stick. Press square to start the run up, then press left/right for about half a second, then press up for about a quarter of a second, should go in the top corner. The fact that you can "queue up" your d pad movements allows to to be more accurate rather than trying to do horizontal and vertical aiming at the same time.

I find free kicks easier with the dpad also. This is just another area where PES is that bit more user friendly than Fifa, i.e. giving you the option to use stick/dpad when you want at all times.

Played this for a few hours and must say it's a drastic improvement on 2010, will probably wait til it's £20ish though before investing.

Anyone managed to download the new data pack yet? My xbox keeps telling me its available, but it isnt there under 'Extra Content'! :(

I have got the new data pack now on PS3, that plus the WENB patch finishes the game off very well!

I've been playing it all evening, the more I play it, the more I love it. Master League is absolutely excellent, its very well balanced as a not too deep Football Manager game, but there is a decent amount of depth there if you want it.

The more I play FIFA 11, well, the more rubbish I think it is. Now I'm used to the few new animations it just feels like FIFA 10 again, but with more bugs.

I would urge people to give this a few hours and you will certainly see how FIFA pales in comparison. Most goals feel the same on FIFA, they almost feel scripted, this is certainly NOT the case on PES.

Licences are not an issue as they are immediately fixed by the WENB patch, these (visual-only) changes all carry through to the online modes, unlike any changes on FIFA.

Fantastic game and I cant believe I called it rubbish after 2 games on the demo :p :(

No Club - unfortunately No Way then :(

I've never really played Club much, dont you play 1v1 at all?

Have you looked into Be a Legend mode, I think that is the same as Virtual Pro etc?

I can have a nose later if you aren't sure, I've just been fiddling with Master League so far :p

Nope I dont play 1v1 - played say maybe 10 games on FIFA 10. Once you play decent Club theres little point IMHO - its pretty much the best feature of FIFA. Think of it like playing online MP FPS with a squad made up of your mates compared to you just playing MP FPS on your own...

Im sure Skip would have told me if PES had that feature...

Well, you could give 1v1 a go on PES, it doesn't have the stupid AI that FIFA suffers from, each to their own though.

I was considering that and realised that FIFA is enough footy for me because of Club (eats up enough time as it is), so why get another footy game - rather play something else! Just to explain my turnaround, nothing wrong with PES, just gives me opportunity to play a non-football game if FIFA isnt eating all my console playing - thats a good thing really...

Is there still a lot of "get it to your quickest winger and leg it" in this? That's what I found that PES 10 degenerated into, and it really bugged me. There was just no need to pass.

Much more minor issue, does it still sound like a gunshot every time your player kicks the ball?

There isn't any 'get it to your fastest winger and leg it', you do need to pass. Sure, you can beat people like wingers do and sprint past slow players, but that is part of the game!

There aren't any superman players either like on FIFA, Ronaldo/Drogba/etc on FIFA absolutely destroy the opposition, on this you have to play to their strengths, instead of the game doing it for you.

I haven't noticed any sounds that resemble gunshots, everything sounds quite authentic :p
