Pro Evolution 2011

But the PES one isnt much better - thats the problem - they are both crap - but supposedly PES should be the most realistic listening to you guys.

Ive noticed if I play a pass into a group of players most of the time it will still go to that player - the defence sometimes either moves away from the ball or allows the receiving player to walk forward onto it - its all so passive. I normally have enough time to turn and play a ball through them...

Ive only gone up to Professional difficultly but thats about the same other than you get more hurried while moving the ball from your half to theirs.

For all FIFAs faults, across the game its not at all perfect but PES is more frustrating where some things are good/realistic (how unforgiving passing/shooting can be compared to FIFA) to things that are just plain embarrassing (being Usain Bolt only when trying to get to poor ball, defence just being passive)

While FIFA daily fills me with rage, this just fills me with disappointment

I don't think so...you can hold L1 while making a pass to have the player who made the pass continue his run in preparation for a one-two, but I don't believe you can actually start another player on a run.
If it is anything like the last couple FIFAs, try tapping L1 repeatedly when you want someone other than the player on the ball to make a run.

Though if I tap it too much I find I end up sending half my team on a run forward :p

Really? I don't tend to have that problem. I try to avoid using it near my defense though, don't want big Martin Skrtel plodding upfield :p

All I want is a game where, when you pull off a picture-perfect sliding tackle, you actually get posession of the ball as opposed to the tackled player recovering twice as fact as your man and just picking up the loose ball again!!!!

Not a critisism of either game because this happens on both!!!!!

StevieP

ps. I'll try both and decide which is for me then!!!

I think at the end of the day FIFA and PES are both two different ways of attempting to make a decent football game, the one you prefer will depend on what you're looking for out of it.
I look for patient build up play and chances carved out of endevour, a hard fought nil - nil against a stronger opponent can be as satisfying as a 6 - 0 hammering for me. Real football takes you through the entire spectrum of emotions, both good and bad, not just in terms of winning or losing, but those times when everythign seems to be going against you, even the ball physics! That specifically used to annoy me about PES games, until I realised that I've been to dozens of football games where exactly that has happened, somehow the ball seems to always fall to the opposition, the ref always seems to blow against you, those goal line scrambles never quite make it over the line etc…
PES for me sums up the reality of football, even it's anger-inducing moments, but those make the highs that much more enjoyable.
I find that FIFA tends to try and stay closer to the middle line, making sure not to frustrate you too much, but at cost of taking that extra pleasure out of the good times.
Football is about wanting to punch a wall one moment, then a few minutes later punching the air in celebration, PES has always fulfilled that criteria perfectly for me. FIFA seems to deliberately avoid those extremes, which is maybe why I've always found it to be a bit sterile.

I don't ever seem to have players making runs through the middle either, all my goals have come from running down the flanks and cutting inside or crossing.

the last couple of PES you can bin tbh best one was and is still PES 6
where as Fifa has improved im my point of view and i switched from PES to Fifa in 2008 :(

I played the Pro 11 demo last night - and wow it sucks so bad compared to Fifa!

Main reason it seems slower; when you pass the ball it doesnt travel as far as in fifa. And the way a player looks when he has the ball at his feet is very weird... Also the shooting bar is way too sensitive...

Only played 1 game, then we all put in Fifa 10 and had a tourney for the next 4 hours or so :D

Can someone tell me how to stop the CPU changing my players so often in defence/attack? Usually chooses the nearest player but often due to the way speed works in this game they are far too slow compared to a further player who is running towards the opponent.

Also why do my players slow to a crawl to match the ball speed on a through ball - cant they pick it up at speed? I notice they run to ball, slow down to pick up ball and then take too long to get back up to speed so they get tackled.

Also do people find it hard to measure where the ball will land from a rebound? So used to the cross mark in FIFA and even with that Im really crap at judging the depth...

Im using the demo to get more used to a more precise passing system which FIFA seems to be moving to - but the stuff above just kills any passing move - really annoying when it moves you away from the person the ball is heading to - for example I had a throw in near corner flag - I throw it long to Villa on edge of 6 yard box who back headers it across box - I try and move control to Messi but it decides as the ball is going way above Ibras head to move control to him and by the time it works out I want to control Messi I watch the ball just go out :/

You just go into the PSN store - presume theres a PSN+ menu and in there you can subscribe for 3/12months (its £40 for 12months IIRC)...

Great link feints are just one button presses to initiate the whole script :/ - L1 and press R-stick in one direction and it will do upto 4 feints in series as per your pre-programmed setup

My demo is downloading, it better be good. :p

I tried the 2010 demo out of interest, and its not that bad to be fair, certain aspects feel better than FIFA, the majority is worse though. Dribbling is dire.

When I was trying that out earlier it seems to do the linked moves really slow, like instead of very fast step overs a la Ronaldo you just slowly step, then slowly step again, and again, and finally a slow exit move, it doesn't matter which player I use either I tried Ribery, Robben, Henry & Messi and all the link moves were just incredibly slow. :(

Yep they are - never do a step on and drag back - just takes FOREVER for the next move to start...

Ive already rainbow flicked the GK a couple of times - way easier than FIFA...

EDIT: Interesting - you can change direction in the middle of a feint link...
