Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

Seabass has said the new engine for next year, so i guess we have to wait till then for the proper next gen graphics.

Its good though that we have two brilliant football games offering two completely different types of games.

Funny that game engine can handle all the hi-res updates on PC then and off course the added sound packs :confused:
 
Because a PC handles caching amongst other things totally different from a console.
One of these days you'll actually understand what I'm posting about.

So it's not the game engine to fault then, but the console?

Explain to us how a PC handles caching differently. And could be be a star and explain to us how an old engine cannot be changed at source to handle new things.

It's frankly pathetic. You're the ONE person who can't see it's an outdated engine. If you can't see how a PC can cache differently then you're just being foolish, ignorant or stupid.

A PC doesn't have 8 cell processors for a start. If you looked at the list of games using the SPEs on the PS3 it's virtually only the first party ones like Killzone 2, GT5 etc.

All the ports don't use them and that's why they suffer from various issues because programmers aren't spending the time developing them correctly. Like NokkonWud said Konami are using a very old engine instead of rewriting everything like FIFA 08 did.

Anyway, if you install to the hard drive and play on the right stadiums the slowdown doesn't happen during gameplay. It isn't acceptable but I'm still going to be buying it as it's still PES.

Just going by my experience on the PC, but you don't play PC so I guess you would not know? But I think the fact you will not explain it but rather to get aggressive as per usual says it all. Shame really. So again adding hi-res textures and more sounds does not cause the engine a problem on the PC, so therefore the engine can surely cope with it, so surely it is therefore a console hardware problem.

How did Simbin manage to add rain effects to the GMotor engine when ISI the makers could not? Puzzling that you think once a game engine is made then it cannot be adapted. Have you any experience with game engines?

I think that's the ultimate example of how flexible a game engine can be.:cool: It's still looks amazing all these years after HL2 was released and has been used in so many different ways.

As for PES6, i think it's perfectly suited to football. The LAST thing i want Konami to do is to 'update' it to be like the mess FIFA is.

i cant remeber the last time i looked at one of your posts (mainly pro evo/fifa ones) without it being agressive, argumentative or just plain idiotic. why are you on these forums?

anyway, on topic, has anyone got anymore reviews non IGN as they seem to give most big games good reviews and id like some more independant reviews before. and i want to know if they have changed the commentary preferably changed commentators

personally this will be the first pro evo game i wont be getting on release date since number 1 as the last 2 have been a let down, i will get it eventually and for the ps3 but not till ive finished with skate, nhl08 and bioshock.
 
Absolutely. Whilst I was never a massive fan of the engine in how it played, I was always in awe of what it was and still is capable of. The Source engine, much like the UnrealEngine was made from the ground up for further projects by not only professional companies, but by amateurs on the mod circuit.

As a result, the sheer number of things that each can turn their hands to is rather frightning, especially the Unreal 3 engine.

What rubbish, stop trying to troll. I am stating MY opinion based on modding the Pro Evo engine on the PC, with hi-res strips, hi-res pitches, changing the graphics, adding sound packs to change the commentry. So why is that idiotic to you? because you do not understand it? why is it argumentative? because you have not done it? And why is it idiotic, when its a fact and easy to do for anyone.

Maybe you would prefer anyone to make claims untrue or not and let them go un-checked.

Jon Champion and Mark Lawrenson are the new commentators (finally).

Lawrenson is awful but he's quite funny to laugh at because of the stupid things he says. Champion is really good though :)

winningelevenblog have a review, they gave it 8/10. IGN rated it too highly because they have an advertisment in the game. If you actually read their review and look at the score the two don't match up.

It sounds like 7/8's because it's not a major step up again but it's still PES.

Next year we'll probably see 9's if Seabass sticks to his word about upturning the teatable.
 
Does Lawrenson just go off on stuff and say 'That's a dive' ?

He's the only commentator on TV at the moment that calls a spade a spade in regards to diving, so hopefully he does in this too.

this is the console section and from what ive read people are talking about the game on the 360, PS3 and Wii.

IMO a game should be good enough for the money paid, not to then spend time modding it to be a great game, im a big pro evo fan but id like to have decent commentry*, good music and correct teams then its going to be as enjoyable as it could have been, and slowdown is inexcusable for any next gen release... i know this isnt the first case as its on skate on the ps3 too

Edit: Cheers Paranoid_Robot i didnt know that much atleast its a step in the right direction and i feel its been one of the bigger let downs of the series, may have to get on bioshock soon to get it finished by friday (although due to other reaons i dont think ill get much gaming done)
