Problem Parkers

Nothing disrespectful about it?!

There are only 2 reasons people park outside their house on a public highway:

  1. They believe they own the land outside of their property
  2. They are too lazy to park further up the road and walk back to their house
Now if this guy was parking in such a way that it was making it difficult for you to get out of a driveway, then you'd have something to complain about.

Also you say there are better places for him to park on the road.......does the road get busy/full of cars parking as people come home from work? Is it simply a case of that's the only space left for him to park in that's close to his flat?

I have an issue similar to this. I live on a very small newish development of about 10 houses. Everyone seems to have 2 or even 3 cars. We each have a driveway for 1 vehicle so naturally the road is lined with legally parked cars. Opposite a couple of the houses is an area designed for parking that will only fit 2 cars and I often park there if the road is full and I need to park my company car, which I do not take home all the time, instead using my 125 scooter to commute. Someone in one of the houses opposite this bay has taken exception to me parking there, stating that it is designed for house numbers x, y, z even though there is no signage to state this, etc. At one point they went as far as placing a note under my wiper asking " Why do you park here? It is for numbers x, y, z only". I'm going to be honest and state that I just threw it away as whilst I sympathise with the situation (I live with it too) it really is first come, first served.

Might not be signed but could be true. There should be info from the company that built / sold the estate to state whether they are free for all or allocated.

I'm more annoyed by people using 'are' instead of 'our'. I mean seriously, how do you possibly confuse the two?

You beat me to it.

I am guilty of that 1 feel ashamed looking back at it

I mentioned earlier it can be a pain to get my childs pram out of my doorway when they park half on the road/curb if i knock my car with it thats fine but i dont think they would be to impressed with a buggy inprint in theirs.

As i also said earlier no one ever parks on road/curb outside the flats and never have done, why i dont know i guess everyone else just parks in the same places all the time so its definatly not a matter of having no where to park.

Again as i have said a number of times i know i have no official right to park outside my house as i do not own that piece of road. If the guy had no where to park at all i quite frankly wouldn't care if he parked outside mine but because he does is what i find rather frustrating.

We have 2 visitors spaces allocated for houses and one for the flats, the flats normally use all 3 but no one complains. I have never used a visitor space in the 2 yrs i have lived here cos id rather leave them for someone else

Haha i would never go down the route of any kind of mishap so to speak. Anyway thanks again for everyones help regarding this.

What have i learnt from this.....................

1, Well that really im pretty much as miserable arse that should really get over something so stupid as there are worse things going on in the world

2, Dont bring stress home from work and take it out on dumb arse things like car parking

Possibly the most sensible thing i've ever seen written in GD...

This boiled my **** with the snow we had recently.

I wasn't parking on the drive as it's fairly steep and no guarantee I would get off it should there be a large amount of snowfall.

What I did do however was clear the entire path in front of my house down the drive to the front door. Also cleared the space in front of my house so I could get in out. Now with the amount of snow I spent easy a couple of hours a day digging and gritting.

Drop the missus off at work and come home (8-9am ish) .... Some **** in the space I cleared

Come back from the Gym (dinner time ish) .... Some **** in the space I cleared

come back from shopping (2-3pm ish) .... Some **** in the space I cleared

Pick the missus up from work (4-5pm ish) .... Some **** in the space I cleared

Yup because being outside in the cold, digging and dragging grit back and forth is exactly why I cleared a space in front of my house you inconsiderate ******, just so you could park there.

Are you sure? have you checked the deeds / title plan? those houses may own that land...

As i had mentioned many times before outside his flat on the roadside where no one has ever actually parked before! You could park a lorry there yet he would rather park outside someones house? amazes me

lol:D I understand what you're saying dude, some people are just not listening to you, crackpot society i'm afraid, probably fried brains from to much mobile phone. Don't worry what others think. :D

Yes it is a street all i want is people to just be respectful when parking, i would not leave my car outside someone else's house thats all im saying.

And that is what all respectable and nice people do, but some people in society are obnoxious bar stewards so there is not much you can do.

is it possible that where he has parking isnt safe? maybe his car was broken into round there, and he uses your space as it is well lit, and deters thiefs?

i seriously dont think he parks 100 yards from his front door in the winter for fun.

Is the development completed? If not I hope its not like most development these days they sell the finished houses/flat straight away and get people to move in who come a custom to having loads of parking/freedom only to have the development complete and everyone parks everywhere because spaces are like gold dust.

I had this issue with my flat and learnt the hard way. When you sell this place try to look for a place with a drive way and dropped kirb if possible will save you stress from people parking legally on a road which isnt yours.

OP, check your house deeds. It will show you the legal boundaries of your house and what parking you have. I live on a new plot, and I have 2 allocated parking spaces that are a few buildings away from my house, about 50 yards. I've had friends parking nearer and they got a note because they used somebody else's parking spot, but I know this now and I pre-warn any visitors that I get.

I've been the 'Problem parker' before, all they got was a screwed up note. If they'd of asked me to my face to stop parking there in the first place I'd of happily done something.

That's not necessarily possible though.

I once lived in a place where we had a parking space at the back of our property, accessed by an alleyway just big enough to fit a car down. Occasionally I'd come home to find people had discovered it as a cheeky place to park without getting a parking ticket when working nearby. I had no choice but to leave a note for repeat parkers because I couldn't sit home and wait for them to show up.
