problem with gpu

so i built my first ever gaming pc

the build went well, but i have a problem for some reason my gpu doesnt seem to be recognised by my pc kinda, if i use CAN I RUN IT then it says i have a gtx 970, but if i ask if i can run a game it says i have integrated graphics with only 256mb of vram, ive downloaded all the latest drivers to no luck.

any advice would be appreciated

You can try disabling the onboard IGP in the BIOS.

In the BIOS, I think its a page called integrated peripherals or something like that, you should see it and its probably set to auto, the other options are disabled/enabled.

I don't know if this is relevant, but as you are running Win 8.1 then you can try this.

What drivers are you running?

Does the GPU appear in the device manager?

Is it (100%) cabled correctly?

yeah it shows up in device manager, whats 100% cabled? pleases tell

^^ Like, do you have the monitor cable plugged into the graphics card and not the motherboard?

And both PCI-E cables are in the GPau, from the PSU. Sounds silly but its easy to overlook sometimes. Just ensure all connection a are secure.
Have you tried various GPU outputs? Eg. HMDI, DVI ect.
