Problem with HD4870

Aye, didn't you know one or two isolated incidents means an entire product range is faulty? You should run away from ATI products as fast as you can before it's too late.

*runs*

*comes back enticed by 4870 great price and performance*

Right then,, have just tried using the VGA connection and it works ok, so why not on DVI??

There are the two DVI timing options in the CCC under the Digital Panel section - "Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" and "Alternative DVI operational mode".

By default the "Alternate DVI mode" is on, and the "Reduce DVI" off.

May be worth trying to switch these settings and see if they have any effect - could be the driver is trying to use a dual DVI signal at high res when the monitor is only expecting single channel (or you only have a single channel cable)?

Just a thought, but worth a try. :D

hmmm try a different DVI cable maybe??? I had a HMDI cable that didnt do 1080p displays but would do anything under... read up its supposedly something to do with the type of cable and the hdcp transcoder or some crap like that... so maybe try a "newer" DVI cable... probably bobbins and futile but I wouldnt say it if it didnt happen to me...

Will you have access to the Digital Panel section when you use a VGA cable?

Have just tried my other pc which has a HD2600XT in it, and guess what!!!!

That to dosen't work with the DVI cable but does work fine with VGA.

Might try a different DVI cable, the one i'm using came with the Dell 2405FPW

This is now getting scary, I am also using the DVI cable that came with the 2405FPW.!!

I have just plugged in another monitor with the above DVI cable, CCC detects the display but I have stupidly put the CCC on the monitor that will not display and I do not know how to move it back !!!

If you can see it in the task bar, right click it and chose move. You can the grab it with the mouse button and drag it over.

If you can't see it in the task bar, alt-tab to it, press alt-space, then m, then you can grab with the mouse button and drag it over.

Edit: or just swap the displays round. :p

Have a bad feeling it could be the monitor causing the problems, there are a lot of post's on other forums regarding ths model off dell and ati card using dvi and this fault and its going back a couple of years..

Good call, but a dvi-vga converter on the card should get around that one ;)
Could be a monitor issue but i would go with software as i assume it worked at some point as he installed the drivers :D

I have run the x1950 with both the monitor and the same cable in the past.
