Problem with my 5090

The two holes in the GPU bracket have rolled away, and I can't insert the screws; they just spin and aren't secure. What's the solution? can i use zip ties to secure the bracket??
Which type or screw should i use to fix this issue?

I often use screws with nuts/wing nuts on fans rather than self-tappers, but I don't think they'd hold that kind of weight.

If the card is held securely and supported underneath, probably, but I personally wouldn't want such a heavy/expensive item to be reliant on a plastic zip tie.

I'd rather have the case lay flat (horizontal) than rely on a zip tie.

Just use a new screw with a nut on the back behind the stripped thread, that's what I did and it works just as well as the original set up.

Are the holes in the case actually stripped out or is it just an alignment issue?

As for the missing screws themselves, just remove a couple expansion slot covers from below where the card mounts. The screws that are holding the covers in place should also hold the GPU in place. -If you can get an extra set of hands to help get it lined up.

I only vertical mount recent heavy GPUs. Becasue I've used many of them I'd use a tool to insert two Rivet Nuts in the existing holes. Bit OTT but then those GPUs are very expensive. Also make sure the other end is supported because a big failure point on 4090/5090 is either the GPU solder balls lifting or the PCB around the PCI-E slot cracks or delaminates.

Slight chance a Rivet Nut will protrude enough to partially block one of the ports so the bolt/nut combo is also a good shout.

That's gonna be really difficult mate, just think a screw with the same width as the original screw but with a finer thread.

I'd have to move a ton of stuff just to access the PC, I just don't have time for that right now.

Or just think of it as a nut and bolt.

It's not a screw and nut, save that for the bedroom

Mine's actually a screw and nut! But a bolt will also work..

Do you put the nut behind the bracket?
Don't you put the screw next to the nut?

Put the screw into where the old screw was and just put a nut at the back.

I bet he has over tightened and stripped out the threads. People need to go gentle with these screws, finger tight is all that is required. It’s not like working on a car with much larger bolts.

Nut and bolt is the next solution, or get a new case.

Today ive tight the screws on rhe case, without the gpu, and i noticed that

Mate, I can't get to the back of the machine to do this. Find out the hole diameter, look for a screw and bolt that'll fit through the hole diameter and cut the screw to size. That's it. And use the Internet to see how others have implemented it.

Most PCI brackets are tooled for #6-32 screws.

You can get "PC Screw Kits" for a fiver with a bunch of different options in them.

Edit: You'll want some 6-32 screws and hex nuts, see here for the nuts:
