Problems at work...what do I do now?

Not all HR departments are ruthless.... stop judging. My HR department is wonderful.

Human Resources are only ever there to treat you as a Human Resource. If you cease being worth more to the company than they're paying you, you will be removed as soon as they can manage it. Don't forget the sharks in HR have to make sure they deliver value.

If I could do it all over again, I'd go for HR.

So if it was a dude it'd be ok to keep bashing him and eventually make an Internet meme in his dedication, but because its a girl we gotta wear kid gloves?
No, I said as much in an earlier post (#66)

Sorry to point out the bleeding obvious but if someone puts the words "biopsy" and "beyond upset" in their post then I'm going to cut them a lot of slack regardless of gender. But as I happened to know the gender and I'm not a complete moron then I guessed the difficult nature of her position.

Some of you need to sample other forums occasionally and recognise that being so Alpha all the time is kinda weird and not always appropriate. Sad that I can't say this without people commenting I want to sleep with her, but it says a lot about the nature of this place.

First off, thank you for all your reply's...

I have to say that I needed to hear this from people who don't know me from Eve...yep Eve. And as harsh as some - most - of the replies are, your right.

I have not told the story very well as it seems...I have worked at the company for 5 years, sales supervisor on the call centre floor, training manager training new staff for the call center...so my knowledge of the working end of the system is second to none and that is coming from managers and directors along the way.

I took the position in the department hoping to learn more regarding the system processes and such, but unfortunately Jim has made himself so busy and so needed that he hasn't really taught me a lot.

Your all right, that email tho was only sent to HR, what they will do with it is anyone's guess. I think the main thing is that Jim hasn't taken the time to find out for himself what was going on and that's what got to me the most.

I can't tell you the amount of times I have been upset by this guy and I know that it all sounds so stupid and petty but I love my job but I feel like I'm being stopped from doing it.
When I said he takes work off me, this is work that I have worked on for weeks, heart and soul stuff with real thought and creativity. And then it vanishes. The proposal Is changed so he is the author and I'm not credited for it...not even to test it when is applied to our test server...

I can't give you all the instances where this guy has slowly worn me into this mess

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I just hope I have time to find a new job

Edit: HR is only one guy in my company...and I honestly thought he was on my side. Oh and this is my 3rd job and I'm 27 for those who wanted to know :-)...sorry typing this on my phone

Been there many times and it used to wind me up to the point of distraction.
I learned to deal with it a different way and make sure it was always documented usually via Email with relevant people on CC.
Sounds like you need a Holiday :D

I think some people in here have spent too much time on Ebaums and actually think that consistently posting like hormonal retarded pubescent American kids is actually something to aspire to.

Other than that it's a great forum :D

But the big question is are you fit, if so that changes everything

I'm hardly acting 'Alpha' all of the time and understand people have emotions and need to vent. I'm actually not a big poster in GD as all of the little boys with their so called Alpha attitude and 'man up' **** etc.. rub me the wrong way, if called on it in real life a lot of them will crumble (as may i, who knows?) and i bet a lot of them aren't as socially accepted or liked as they'd think they were.

However, the OP is doing herself no favours acting that way in a work environment and the Email is a big mistake imo, i tell it like i see it.

HR are employed by the company for the company. There's no point in fighting a losing battle, if you don't like it you know where the door is.

I was in once in a similar situation, it felt like quitting was giving in but once I was out of there I realised it was the right thing for me to do, I should have done it sooner & saved myself a lot of stress.

HR still have feelings! Some people do care about others and respect them so don't judge all of company HR departments.

Yeah HR is no different to any other Department really. We have some really nice and cool HR reps and also our fair share of utter Bar stewards too!

Well to sum it up, the email you sent to HR is not really very constructive. It reads like a general moan without getting to clear relevant issues and action you want taken. You need to spell it out. Bringing up pay at the same time and other irrelvant stuff doesn't help at all. What were you thinking writing that you would take another job elsewhere if offered? The irony with that comment is that nobody would offer you one if they knew you were this high maintenance.

Life is way too short to work in such an unhappy environment. Don't sit complaining on an internet forum. Move jobs. Do it. Do it tomorrow. Get your CV out there. Just realize that you get morons every job you are at.

Didn't really understand why you put a random section about salary in the middle of an email about a different issue - it may be a perfectly valid concern, but it should be dealth with seperately IMO.

As for not getting a reply from HR yet, by their nature they will be very cautious with what they send out in response to any greivances raised by staff so they can avoid getting bitten on the ass later.

I brought up the pay issue because its another factor to my feelings and attitude. I found out that the guy employed recently to our team (of 3 now inc him) has been hired with a higher salary and more holidays, yet he has no experience in Systems Testing (same as me) and no IT qualifications (I haven't either) and has no experience in working in our sector...but they have chosen to pay him more...yes I understand that it wasn't articulated correctly but I needed a way to get this across. Also, wasn't asking for a pay increase, I was asking if the review, as advised in October last year, had been completed yet.

I might be an idiot and extremely brash but I felt the need to say all those things as it is a factor to the way I feel in that office at the moment.

I can't see why they can send me on dismissal grounds on that email, its my thoughts and feelings and its the truth.

I asked Jim to leave the room during the meeting as HR were asking the real reason why there is a problem, and as much as I don't like the guy, I didn't want to say to his face that he makes my skin crawl and makes my stomach heave. Needless to say HR said that he admired my honesty.

The ideal would be to not have to work with him at all. But to continue with my job in that company I have too, so the next best would be a tester for another team, where I wouldn't have to deal with him every day. This could be an option as per my office manager. But I don't know if or when...if ever.

Unfortunately, there is a 2 year back story to this and I can't put it down on here. I asked for opinions and you gave them to me straight. So taking all this with a slight pinch of salt, imagining Jim as mentally ill with a small willy and ramping up the job search should keep me going for a few more months
