Problems in t' household

Aarrrgh he has a GPT partition set up. I can't install anything unless I nuke his HD, and I'm not sure that he's got all his data off.
It will have to wait until Monday I think.
 
Not sure if you said you had found the OEM key, does the Windows.old folder look as though it has a complete copy of the previous Windows folder structure? Keyfinder (Load Hive menu) does let you load and read the prodoct key from a Windows folder, maybe that will show you the Win 8.1 key.
 
Update. A clean install of w8 with a downloaded ISO automatically picked up the key in the BIOS and activated. From there an upgraded install of w10 was straight forward.
This was as you'd expect now a clean HDD. All previous data was lost

I just went through the same thing on my mates little netbook, oddly enough Windows 10 runs WAY better than Windows 7 did, he's over the moon. I'm just glad to see the back of it lol
