That part where the ear would be looks like a spindle type thing from a harddrive with the platters removed.

Be cool if you get it to look like that :)

It looks slightly morbid to me atm (prob cos it's in bits and unfinished)

Im planning to attach some sort of metal plate inside the side of the head. Im then going to attach all sorts of mechanical looking things to it to hopefully make it look similar to the pic. I might have to use some epoxy putty to build bits up as well.

I know what you mean about it looking morbid and dead, but as you say, I think thats because its unpainted and still has no eyes. Once shes painted and ive figured out how to make human looking eyes it shouldn't look as dead.

Any idea of how I could rig that up though? That sounds hard tbh.
depends

if you've some kinda electrics involved in the moving head bit at all you could rig them into that, you would have to find a spec sheet for the moters in the hard disk tho.

just reminds me of an anime I saw where this guy had some uber armour and it had these spinning bits like that, when he jumped or moved fast etc they would spin up.

ok, how did this slip to page 3?
come on dude, we know you're in there! don't make me MSN your ass!

Can be done mechanically, with two plates connected by a bendy but non rotating shaft. This will make a panel in the head that moves with the head but doesnt rotate when the head does. From this you connect a gear, or some kind of pully system, to the rotating ear. When the head is moved the ear will behave as if the panel is rotating, not the head.

..... let me try and draw a description, give me a minute :p

Kinda like this. The head can rotate on all axis and the red gear will move with it. The gear must not be fixed into the head, though, so that the head can rotate around it. Think of the yellow flexible shaft as an axle, and the red cog a wheel. When the head moves, the blue cog will move around the red gear, converting the rotation and passing it via a belt to the cog that drives the ear's spindle.

Nice design, thanks. But I highly doubt there is space in the head or neck for any of that. I still have no updates btw. I think im going to take a bit of a break from the whole thing. Ive been quite ill recently so ive not had the energy to work on it. Ive also been busy annoying the pope in Medieval total war. :)

Well none of the cogs or anything need to be of any significant size, they could be as small as ten pence pieces :) Its the number of teeth on the cogs that matters.

So uh.... you're spanking a bishop? I mean... pope. of course. :o

In the head, something the size of 10p is big. The tolerances up there are in mm. And lol, nope im not spanking the pope, just annoying the hell out of him by killing the Danish.

Good work! Filithy danes... :p

Well, ok. My mechanical prowess is severely limited, but how about a teeeeeny tiny motor with power drawn from an even teenier fan controller (one of them pci ones or something.

Also, have you seen the USB missile launchers OcUK sell? Maybe you could destroy it and adapt the innards for moving the head/eye. AFAIK these are USB powered, mouse aimed.
