Beetle Diary !
OK, I’m doing this to show you guys what I’m up to, and as I’ve had the car for 18years, and It’s been on the road for erm well errr most of it, if I don’t keep going you fine members can shame me into getting my sorry hide into the garage.
We moved the other year and I’m now the proud owner of a nice big double garage so I really have no excuses for not getting it done. It is with my family a constant source of entertainment and ridicule, mum : /snigger/ “is the beetle done yet?”/chuckle/ LOL/, so I really do need to get it sorted!
It’s a 1971 1200cc beetle, been lowered ect ect , when I kinda got going on it the last year I ordered engine parts to build a 2332cc so should be quite lively.
And last year I de-channelled the bonnet compartment as it had rusted beyond repair and sorted the couple of small rust spots that had appeared, I did paint it about 13 years ago red ‘n white, and when I first got it it’s first mot it failed on all the usual bug bits, so that all got done, so pretty much it was restored then and had a bare metal re-spray when I last did it so it’s over all condition is sound due to it being for about 90% of the time stored in an unused garage.
When the other year I did decide to get it done I was kinda just going to blow in the few rust spots, but Jay(7) didn’t like the colour and thought I should paint it the same colour as I’d just done his wheel chair, and Sam thought the same and I was sort of thinking about it so I quite easily got talked into a colour change (again!)
Any way what with one thing and another most of this year nothing happened…… until the other month when the ball got rolling again!
So please find pictures enclosed……

basically the most of the inside bits have been painted, i've left out the bonnet compartment for now, as at this time i'm gripped in the horns of a dilema as wether or not to flip front it........ i later decide not to !
this was about 4 weeks ago.

with the inside painted, i can fit the home made head lining

Nice! Really looking forward to more pics when you get them. I had a '74 Beetle for a while a couple of years ago. Which reminds me - where's that page about the T5 Beetle? Is /that/ finished yet?

the week after painting the inside, the seets and panels fitted
BARGAIN wheel from bernard newbury £25 !!!!!!!! came with a £175 label on it

guages and monster tach to hit the dash :D

Looking good. Have you got the engine built up?

I'd love to restore a car like a beetle where if you decided to sell you would at least make some of your investment back, try doing the that with a Chevette...

had a break for a couple of weeks, this week end painted the inside of doors, bonnet and bonnet compartment, so all the horrible paint work is done now, time for the outside :)

it's on the to-do list  , i'm thinking of fueling at the mo 48's, Fi, turbo nitrous hmmmmm ???

Proper job! One day I'll do that to the manta. It's kind of hard trying to respray a car one rattle can at a time when I have time and it's dry, without taking the car off the road:D.

Looking great Bruce! :D I look forward to following this project - it's going to be great fun!

Nice to see Jay's helping out too ;)

Yup, if i'm in there, i've usually got a couple of helpers :)
Jays sprayed a few of his matchbox's - respray at the age of 7

need to do an update on Jay!

The wings have been painted at work about a year + running boards + engine lid

Can't really see the colour much but its standox darkish blue (solid base) mixed 2:1 with a standox xsarillic?? (real pearly green) so it flips quite nicely between straight blue and pearl green in the sun its stunning!
