Project CARS 3

@Andrew_McP PCars2 is £7.19 on Steam atm.
My target is £4.99 for everything these days. The older I get, the guiltier I feel about spending some of that precious time in a virtual world. :-)
This actually looks more up my street to be honest
I actually enjoyed the Shift games, because they weren't trying to be something they weren't; simulation of the racing/speed experience is one thing, but simulation of racing physics is quite another. As the claims got stronger, so did the controversy. And if there's one thing sim racers love, it's a fight about rubber and maths. :->

rFactor 2 is under valued IMO.

They have great tech, however under the original developers the project was a bit of a mess. Was missing a number of quality of life features, seemed outdated UI wise and lacking official content. New owners of it have stepped up though and it's good to see it starting to get a bit more traction.
As for PC, well 2 had it all. Loads of cars and tracks, different weather, a carreer mode, VR, looked good. Yet something always seemed 'off', it didn't help that I found the AI impossible to race against as they just turned into you like you weren't there. I think they are right to go after the forza/gran trusmio crowd, it being a simcade game makes more sense.

Will be interesting to see what Turn10 and PD come up with for FM8 and GT7 respectively. The way T10 have been talking about FM8 behind the scenes tells me they are doing something similar and branching out. PC3 has just put itself directly against the two behemoths in the arcade racer genre.

I'm not sure on PC3 after watching the YT videos, any release dates? Looks like a GRID clone too me.

Watched a few more videos on PC3 yesterday and I think since codies have taken over this is going to be another GRID under the SMS brand, this isn't what I expected nor did others I think. Not saying GRID was bad but PC3 should have been what sim racers where waiting for.

The trailer does not sell it to me at all. The whole "push the other car off the road" and "look how fast the corvette is" moments just make it look stupid and like its trying to appeal to a much wider "arcadey" buyer. The graphics look no better that PC2 as well.

doesnt look sim to me looks more arcadey.

Nowt wrong with that, how many of us started out with Gran Turismo and had a blast?

I love AC and Iracing but still love a good arcadey blast too from time to time and have a real fondness for some of those GT original tracks, bring on Deep Forest raceway in the Police car R32 (or was it an R34?) with He pedals, SC2 pro, Ascher wheel etc, it will still be a blast.

because its being marketed as a sim racing game. not arcade or simcade. so its not whats being advertised. so sim people will buy it for realism and get need for speed. people like that sure but it isnt whats on the tin.

When there is no shortage of really good choices in the sim space then you're right, I love my AC but I'd also love a bit of Outrun type action too from time to time just for a laugh.

PCARS 3 is supposed to be a sim its being marketed as a sim. so when you see its a arcade game it maybe fun but its not a sim game. while some people like this some will be buying being based on what its sold as then peed off when it not what they wanted.

Can't wait for it personally. XP, unlocks, money whatever, it's an addictive game type that I've enjoyed since GT on the PS1 . There's a total lack of arcade racers in VR, it will be very popular.

I'm more than happy that it's not just an extension of PC 1 and 2. Truth be told, where do you actually go from PC2.

I think that's being fair and honest about the stated intent of the game, not really selling itself as a sim.

I think it looks great, why not have a GT type competitor on PC... we aren’t lacking for more “hardcore” driving sims at the moment.

Since getting much more into racing lately having built the new rig, I’ve been really enjoying rFactor2 which is clunky in terms of interface but gives a great driving experience, excellent VR performance too. I think the graphics actually look pretty decent with the latest updates and content too. The new Ferrari GTE for example is visually stunning in my opinion and also one of my favourite cars to race.

The enjoyment of racing GT3 and GTE in rfactor 2 then led to me buying ACC and I’ve absolutely loved it, most fun I’ve had in a driving game to date.

Went back to try out PC2 again afterwards on same track (Bathurst) and similar GT3 spec cars and still found PC a lot of fun. It also has probably one of the best VR implementations going... easy to use in VR with no need to revert to keyboard, good performance and plenty of options to tweak the experience to suit your preference/comfort.

I would say that ACC is probably my favourite game at the moment, just a great overall package and the audio blows my socks off. RFactor2 just loses out because the user experience and consistency of content just isn’t up to scratch, although that melts away when you start driving.

All that said, I think there’s more than enough room for what they are pitching here and I’ll be excited to try it out.

SMS where they belong in the arcade scene as they failed miserably to create a sim.

I have driven some of the road cars in PC2 in real life, and PC2 did a great job with those. I also rented an 86 on the Nurburgring and practiced for the trip in PC2. -And PC2 absolutely NAILED that combo.

PC2 has some bugs, but it's proven itself to be very SIMilar to real life in every instance I have been able to test.

PC3, however, has always-optimal tires that "transition" themselves while driving for various conditions....very arcadey.
