Project Cars vs AC

I love it when posters present a well considered and rounded argument for their opinion...

There is more to 'do' out of the box on PCars I feel. I would suggest grabbing PCars now and then pick up AC in a steam sale. I think both are different enough and have their own advantages which merit purchasing both.

ive commented enough on pcars over the years.so no need to add to it.assetto in my opinion is a better game.

my opinion . differs from your enjoy what you like.

now back to Dirt rally which is better than both lol :D

thanks for that video Mr Borsch im halfway though, just some awesome real wheel steerimg :)

as for whats better i prefer project cars, probably cause ive only got a 360 pad and not a wheel.
also for better or worse project cars reminds me of toca race driver 2

I have to admit feeling the same about AC. I enjoy going out on track for a while, great physics and ffb for the most part, but it's just a bit bland and really lacks some core racing features.

I haven't even bought pCARS because nothing I've seen of the release version convinces me it's any better than the game I asked to be refunded for in testing.

Assetto corsa or project cars or?

I need a good racing game. Not owned one since moving to PC gaming from Xbox and the last one I ploughed loads of time into online racing was forza 3.

Can anyone recommend a racing game like forza? Is assetto a good shout? Don't want it to be too sim like, will be playing via controller.

Do you have a wheel?
IMO you need a wheel for both of them games to get the best out of them.
I have both and no wheel.and I don't play them anymore.its no good with the controller. And I'm still undecided which wheel to get. The prices are just silly money.

Why are they no good with a controller? P cars I would have thought would be ok being multi platform.

AC is in a steam sale picked it up and I am dissapointed with its gfx, content, career and ai comparable to project cars.

And I don't like the filters within the game, the gfx look horrendous at times, but tweak about you can make it look decent.

However its handling is superb. So for me. Its going to be a quick hot lap game or quick track day. Project cars seems to be the better game for content. If only I could have AC handling and PC content... That would be superb oh and Ferrari in PC as well.

I own both

I would go with project cars tbh.

Both are great games but project cars is more controller friendly with it being on console as well.

AC is the better game/sim if you have a wheel it has not really been built around controller use and you have to put in a lot of time to get the most of it, if like me you suck at racing games.

Diry rally looks amazing and with it being codemasters should be pretty controller friendly too.

Neither are great for pad support , took me a good 2 hours getting project cars even remotely playable , still not perfect .

AC for the sim experiance including imo far better wheel response and FFB

Project cars ( at least with a wheel ) is the easiest to drive well without the need for uber skill .

Logitech DFGT. Plenty on the bay for reasonable money. Won't find better for the price.

On the first page of this thread I've posted two videos of BMW 1M @Nords side by side - one from Ac, one from pCARS, and imho they are in the same league gfx wise. Pcars looks incredible in the rain which AC lacks, and also it has some nice looking fantasy tracks like California coast (which AC lacks). BUT, on real life tracks - eg pcars' Norrdschleife vs AC's, or pCars Imola vs AC's etc - they look close to each other.

As for AI, the main difference is that pCARS AI likes to bump and grind, AC's AI are tuned to race clean and go side-by-side while respecting your line.

(here's a quick vid on medium difficulty)

Career- neither is Forza or Gran Tourismo unfortunately, everything is unlocked so you just have somewhat meaningless series of races. But PCars does have more immersion between races, I would agree.

However its handling is superb. So for me. Its going to be a quick hot lap game or quick track day.

Yup. That is how I play most of the time and I've enojyed so much I'm now saving up for a RL trackday car. Toyota MR2 mk3 probably :)

AC gfx to me looked terrible with certain filters. Nurburgring looked good with a filter I downloaded , but over all hands down project cars has AC licked regarding gfx IMO. So we'll agree to disagree. There are lots of little extras that project cars has that really gets you into the immersion of racing. Silverstone is superb gfx wise in project cars, it felt bland and colourless iin AC IMO. After some tweaking AC can look decent but it never looks striking.

Monza in AC looks good mind, and reflections in windscreens in AC look very nice.

I'm too fixed on going flat-out with rather brilliant car physics in AC to care about the little graphical details. :p The colours are fine, usually games keep over saturating but i've never seen pCars in the flesh - refuse to pay for something widely regarded as unfinished - as i'm more than happy with AC. DLC quality is excellent, as well as the addition of some great mods (787B, Original Mini, MP4-13...)

they do, it's nuts, nearly gave up in pcars career with the karts as they were smashing me all over the place

Don't suppose you could post your g27 settings?

I know a few are wheel specific but I haven't really got the time to go into the detail required so if I could borrow yours as I tried my g27 in PCars and it just did not feel right at the default settings. Would like to be able to just tap some pre-set settings in and even if not perfect know it will be decent to judge properley.

Cheers.

Cant at work atm, look here and yours need the jack spade files for sure 50% improvement in the slower cars. not so much FA and GT
