Project: H2Orange

Sooooo after my last build using one of these, i really liked it. So after breaking one of the PCI slots on it after a bit of a mishap with a GPU i bought another one, and my old one can be used for something with less than 3GPU's in haha.

wIiviLZl.jpg

Om not going to go through what's in the box as i did it in the last build, and now its a bit of an old mobo, but heres a pic of all the goodies you get!

KvDunZVl.jpg

And of course, heres the motherboard in all its black and orange glory.

WAIT!?!! BLACK and orange?!?

Something will need to be done about this.

soooooo, Masking tape... yup.

WhIjM6jl.jpg

Putting a new motherboard outside on a table? Why not?!

xAAkD7sl.jpg

Hang on... usually after masking tape there comes....? Thats right, lets get the rattle can out!!

first light coat to just break me in

2SRrsu1l.jpg

This is what it looked like after around 3-4 coats. I didnt want to do too many more as i dont want have too many issues with heat.

After taking the masking tape off:

and just some pictures of the overall finish!

and what it will look like with the blocks installed (they are just resting on at the moment)

gY3nl2Bl.jpg

This is probably the scariest mod ive done, i did check it posts after, and i dont seem to be having any problems.I will of course be keeping an eye on the temps once i kick it all in!

Wouldn't catch me spray painting a motherboard but each to their own!

Looks ace though!

thanks buddy, i did test it on a spare mobo first, it worked fine after so thought id take the plunge!! at the end of the day, if it didnt work... id cry

Looks fantastic :)

The white of the motherboard breaks up the orange of the blocks, and the orange of the blocks breaks up the white of the motherboard! :)

Cheers broskie! yeah, im rather happy with how it came out too! cant wait to get the loop in now :D

How'll the paint hold up to heat?
is that one of the boards with a conformal coating?
i belive when i looked around that plastidip has a heat tolerance to something like 200 degree F so i should safe.
as for the coating, i dont thin so, as far as i know only ASRock boards have it?

You sir are very brave :D
I wouldn't do it to be honest.
I just put a block on one of my 780s and it made my skin crawl, but this....
Oh but it looks so sweet :D

ps. sent you an email about the cables (if you have some free time :D )

gotta risk it sometimes buddy if you want something a bit different! got your email too ;)

Nice work dave, sure gonna look sweet ;)

Cheers buddy, its getting there now I just need to find some time to start some building!

Looks grand!

Cheers matey!

Holy smokes you plasdipped the motherboard ! Brave man, someone else painted there motherboard on these forums, I don't think I'd have the nerve to do it, kudos....

Looking good mate, hope you don't mind but I might just copy your keyboard idea, although I wanna buy the all yellow one and plasdip it black as really its the led colour I am after.

Well, if they won't make me a white motherboard I'll have to make one white myself!

And of course go ahead man, nothing quite as satisfying as having something you have done yourself sat on the desk!

looks good, i agree with the comment being brave spraying your board, nice colours aswell :)

Either brave or stupid... I'm not sure which category I'm in!

You're building another bloomin' PC?! :p

Gotta keep you in a job aint I ya sexy bugger!

nice build! cant wait to see the finished monster :)

Loved the work on the keyboard too!

Cheers buddy, I thjnk the keyboard is my favourite Tbh!

Dammnn was not expecting that with the mobo, nice!
Not long before LAN, I expect to see this in it's glory :D

Your more than welcome to come mine for a beer and computer building session before LAN man! Got loads to to :p

Looks amazing dude :)

Cheers matey!

Right, so the next plan of action is finding some 1 or 2mm aluminium for cheapish. I'm running out of time for this build and I've got loads of other things to do before I finish it. I worked out today I have 9 days at home before I take it to i51 Eeek!

Im struggling to get hold of Xspc angled fittings too! So its gonna be a close one I reckon!

Wait if he meticulously picks off every bit of plasi?

They will never know... I'll just say it arrived like that ;)

Will painting the mobo shorten the life span of the board??

Just wondering :S

Probably. As long as it lasts me until I get bored again I'm happy =D

Subscribing so I can watch this project develop :)

I like how the white 'flattens' the texture of the motherboard, but still gives a detailed contrast to the absolute flat of the orange sections.

Cheers buddy =D I'm happy with the outcome of it Tbh. OK its not perfect, but it doesn't need to be. Once its built it will do its job nicely.

LOL DAVE.

utterly mental.

I have seen my fair share of warranty issue products come back through our return department. I think it is fairly safe to say that your warranty is void with the board in its current state.

:P

What??! ! I've voided my warranty?! FML. If I'd have known that i wouldn't have done it.

Nah, if your not voiding warranties your doing it wrong ;)

I know the pain.*
I had to do a 'mix and match' with drain part of my loop.*
Everything was out of stock.

Hopefully it won't come to that. I'll do as much as I can before iI use other fittings. I'll see what I can do

Love the blocks and the colour scheme.
But can't help feeling if you used painted mobo armor (asus gryphon/sabertooth/M6F)
or made your own, would look sharper and more defined.

I guess in a case the texture will not matter and colour will be all you see.
Don't mean to be negative as I really enjoy your build logs, keep the updates coming.

No problem buddy, I did actually have access to a vacuum former which I did think about making a cover with.

Then I thought buggrit, this has gotten the view count up a fair bit on other sites and it has done the job I wanted it to do (just get rid of the big lumps of black)

and the criticism is just as useful as the praise, its what gives me ideas!

Loving the build! Always great these are :D

I saw your post with the fittings and had to order them! - Having the same issue with getting angles, seem to be out of stock everywhere. If I find some I'll let you know.

That would be awesome mate, its the one thingiI'm struggling on now. I think I've got everything else!

Well, i logged onto facebook today, received a message from a friend saying "gigabyte have been sharing your motherboard post btw"

WHAT?!??!??!!!

looked, and GIGABYTE and GIGABYTE USA have both shared my build log from one of the forums i posted it at!!! from there, its got 70+ more shares from other websites/companies/people! inculding MAXIMUM PC

Im really humbled to see something ive done somewhere so popular, so thanks for that guys!!!!

Right, lets get down to some modding!

So, not only did Coolermeister sort me out with a load of XSPC gear, but he also sorted me out with something else!

it meant cutting my case up a little bit, but i think in the end it will be worth it, bear in mind this ISNT FINISHED!!!!

Also, the battery on my phone was dying (yup still using my phone to take the photos =( ) so some of them went a little funny! i will hunt out one of my other cameras soon, i promise!

So....

The front panel, in all its white goodness.

VOInXynl.jpg

soooo... i need to put something in the top 2 bays... the "something" doesnt fit yet.

lets make it! Time to grab my trusty dremel and cut off some little bits....

aPWSLJul.jpg

hmmm.... still doesnt fit =(

CGvmM6ol.jpg

Ok... Lets get the file out.

Thats better! snug like a bug in a rug!

GKVV6eJl.jpg

Have you guessed what it is yet??!

Thats right, its a Nice 6.2" touch screen (dont worry, the scratches are on the plastic, not the screen)

hjtDYuCl.jpg

At the moment, im just holding it in with some glue from my glue gun, its holding well, but il be making a backing plate to hold it in place better at some point

l3AF1Ptl.jpg

so, does it even work?

Yup! wooohooo!!

7wZbXH6l.jpg

VmlMfH5l.jpg

I just need to sort the edging out (which shouldnt be a problem, i have a few ideas for that!)

so... another step closer!!!

Oh, and i know its not central (this is done on purpose, the right hand side (as you look at it) has a wider bezzle than the left, so if i centred the actual screen, the image on it wouldn't be correct.

i will be making it look better later :)

Looking really nice Dave! Cannot wait to see it complete!

Cheers buddy, hopefully i can start on the actual build soon!!

Nice looks good, and I didn't notice the bezel until I read your text!

Someone would have, so i thought i best mention it hahah

ooooo, Very nice.
I've got a pile of 7" LCD touchscreens, was never sure what I should do with them
I think I have an Idea now :p

depending on what you have i might be inclined to grab one off you if you have some extras! i have got another idea for one, but could only really grab one at the time.

Another thing I wouldn't dare :D
Cutting your brand new case.
My S8 was screaming in terror already when I drilled some holes to attach pump but this...
Wow.
Dear Sir, did I tell you before that you are very brave ? :D

Awesome stuff.

aaaah, if your not destroying things its boring!!

Use your slr camera. You bought my.old one so use it noob

a friend is borrowing it at the moment!! i have a little bridge camera sat here, but the batteries died, its effort putting them into the charger ;)

Nice job on the touchscreen, will you be using it for anything in particular?

Porn. no wait,
no, ocuk browsing, no wait....

Not really, i have a little idea with it though that im going to be trying, im hoping to run it independently from the "main" computer ;)

Definitely following this thread, my own PC is black/orange themed so might steal some of your orangeyness! Definitely want to source that motherboard though as that would fit perfectly with my scheme!

Great work so far, intrigued to see what you use the touchscreen for!

If I was you I'd go for the later z87. I only used this because I already had the processor for it ;)

Good to see my pumps going to a good home! from one XSPC H2 to another!

I'm actually using Xspc ones in this, I'd already bought them, but I'll be certainly using your pump tops! I have some other little projects I'll be using your pumps in, they will certainly be used ;)

y u no post more photos

Soon...

It should be OK still. I did do a very scientific test to see what got hot

( played bf4 for a few hours, then touched things to see what was warm)

As I say very scientific ;)

With the wwater blocks over the hottest bits, and not spraying the other parts that got rather toasty I'm hoping it will be fine.

This is a very quick update!

first of all, A massive thanks to https://www.bellystockings.com
GatN4td.png
for sending me a LOAD of material!

as most of you guessed correctly, i will be making some nice fan filters with them.

As im now running out of time in getting this build into a usuable state though, i am just going to have to use tape to get it in place, i have a way better idea, so this WILL be updated in the near future.

so, first, here is how much they sent (around 2.5M x 2.5M :o!!!)

pSdUcjFl.jpg

Its actually a really good material, its stretchy, easy to work with (if you make a little mistake whilst cutting, you can just stretch it a little bit more to get the desired shape ;)
and im hoping it will do an awesome job at keeping the unwanted dust out of the case.

also, its cheap!!!! (from their website, its around £9 per meter, which is plenty do do most cases!

Ive been informed that they do do some finer material as well, so if you want to make sure that absolutly no dust gets through theres always that option!

so, this is what the material looks like when its behind, its REALLY hard to get a photo, but it does look quite vibrant, once i have the lights in the case, and everything is in place i think they will look rather good!

OwziYUTl.jpg

ive also been doing some spray painting!

one of the radiators are done, is pretty much done (il probably give it another bit of a sanding down and 1 last coat)

2JfIQRrl.jpg

ive primed the pump and pump top ready for a coating

lfzeJ7ul.jpg

and ive sprayed all the fans

Before (a nice mix match of gentle typhoon fans and 1 Enermax cluster, id already done the cluster to see what it would look like

Primed

and.... ORANGE!

FnWpVgHl.jpg

ive only actually got 1 week until i need to take this build to i51. 4 out of the 7 days il be working away, so i have 3 days to finish it pretty much. So appologies that this update is a little rushed, and not with great photos!

IM SCARED!!!

Cheers gents, I ordered another 60 quids worth of fittings just before I set out for work, so when I go home Friday iI should have everything I'll need to start the loop!

As I work away, I now only have 4 days off until I take this to i-series! I need it at least to work, and not look too bad!

Needless to say I'm a little worried about getting everything done!

Oh, and typhoons rock ;) these are the last of my stock pile now though! Gonna have to find something else (or recycle these) for my next build!

Right, to start off with, most of the stuff ive done will be gettinga nother sanding down and another coating of paint when i get more time, ive now got 1 day off work to get this system into some kind of workable starte
and i havnt even tested it properly yet. I have done a fair bit over the last couple of days, but i havnt been taking many pictures really, i WILL be re doing it as i say though, and then i will have my DSLR back :D

Firstly a big thanks to

pYKmW8F.jpg

They have cut some acrylic for me in super fast time! and as always, their work is outstanding!

1N4p2nzl.jpg

they are relitivly simple cuts, but it took a fair few hours work from me, which has been a life saver.

This will eventually let me mount my pumps and reservoirs like this :

4XH3tyHl.jpg

I also sprayed 2 gpu blocks white, because 2 look really nice....

btkY66Pl.jpg

then i sprayed another one because 3 are awesome :D

UvGuN4yl.jpg

tE69vmhl.jpg

the loop has started to go in!!

with my personal favorite bit

5Ilbmlyl.jpg

ive also taken apart an old fan filter and put my material there instead!

7ozS911l.jpg

(excuse the wet patches, id just cleaned out the radiator again)

Ive still got a hell of a lot to do, but i think i might just have to bang it together on wednesday now so that i can take it to LAN thursday, either that or carry on building when i get to lan haha

Id also like to thank Garry (confused) for helping me last week with this, he helped me out quite a lot!!! (and bought me some stuff to use!!)

Last edited:
Yeah, thanks very much Garry, you certainly helped me a lot when you came round! I'd lost all my motivation because everything I was doing was going wrong

I had a grumble on Facebook about it, a hour later Garry knocked on the door, kicked me up the arse and started to cut holes into things with me! Winner!

And snips, I'm sure as hell hoping to. I have literally got Wednesday to finish it though. If I Dont, then I'll have to chuck together a quick Parvum build Or something!

Yeh I'm EAS, always am ;)
if needs be. Il bring all my stuff and try finish it at lan on the Thursday night. I'm hoping to have the coolant delivers tomorrow (mayhems are hopefully sending it out today!) And I have another load of fittings from OcUK being delivered (sigh another 20+ quid on fittings)

As long as I don't hit any major set backs I should be good to go. Ive just got to figure out how I'm going to get the screen working now!

Cheers guys, it looks like my coolant has arrived from mayhems and also it looks like I'm going to have some hep from Confused again tomorrow evening! So I might have chance to finish this before lan after all!
