First I would like to welcome on board my first sponsor Aqua Computer thanks for sponsoring this build. We will take a closer look at their parts and how they’re going to be adapted into this case later on in this build
Lets carry on the barrel top stage, ok the two 30mm box tube was taken off the side panels and sanded down so I can get a nice smooth arc on them.
Ok smoothed down with an allowance for the next step. The top is only placed on with it bolted down there are no gaps.
Now it’s time to light up the blow torch so I can heat up the Perspex and bend it round the side panel.
All going to plan.
I would have liked to put some more pressure on the aluminium but I would have crushed the plastic and deformed it too much. So I took it as far as I could and then removed the panel and support to hammer it in smooth.
After a cut down of the excesses material I tested the fit but still needed a good amount of filling down to get the pieces to line up correctly.
Back and Under Panels
The underside and back of the cannon are simple compared to the rest of the bodywork. There Just a few sheet of aluminium with some aluminium angle holding them together.
First started off with various lengths of aluminium angle and drilled the relevant holes.
Starting off and the back side of the forward grip hence the odd half moon shape.
Then prepared for the first bend. Some of the bends I scored the aluminium using this ball nose mill and others I just used a Stanley knife if I couldn’t get the sheet in my mill.
First bend successful but only lightly held in place
The second bend was a 90 degree bend but the issue was the rear grip and so the grip needed to be filed down to sit flush with the panel. Using a simple piece of cardboard I soon got it sorted.
On a roll now. The sheet was then cut down to make it more manageable.
After the two bends it was time to start riveting the panels on (there really scratched but this will be cleaned up later on). Simple Snap rivets four on each panel.
Onto the next bend. This is a better shot of how I bend the metal and you can see the aluminium angle held on tight be the snap rivets.
Next panel
Looking good
Now a slight change to plan this sheet will go into the body of the cannon and hide some of the internal pipe work and make a seamless base panel and a second sheet will be used on the underside.
Last bend for this sheet this will meet up with the underside of the PSU.
The second panel needed to be a giant “U shape to account for the rear grip. Using a cardboard piece again I made a quick template and cut it out.
Tiny bend to cover up the large gap in the rear of the grip.
And the main bend on this panel with the help of scrap aluminium and a vice.
A slight adjustment to the rear frame as originally it was designed to fit 1mm aluminium and all theses panels are 1.5mm.
6 bolts holding it in place bolted into the rear framework. The gaps in the grip will be filled in soon were buttons used to be.
Theses I did ages ago but only just got around to fitting them there the sides of the main IO panel for the case.
It’s starting to come together nicely now. (Dam forgot the fit that last bolt!)
Scary how big it is (image taken before the barrel top was finished)
Thanks guys hopefully get another build post with you soon.
