Project - Scorpion (Lian Li PC-A71F mod)

The powdercoating looks immaculate, cable holes are a nice touch as well. Something thats badly lacking on theese cases in stock form. Your making me think of getting my internals black now instead of blue.

Lian-Li's were born to be black inside...do it! :D

Looking pretty sleek, thrifles, and as setter has pointed out the extra cable holes are a nice touch and will ensure that cable management will be easier and considerably neater.

Looking forward to the build pics.

Best of luck bud.

Temporary Sig as last one was too big a file size

With Christina Hendrick's and Scarlett Johansson's cleavage in the same shot i'm not surprised ;)

Such a shame that Lian Li only offer black internals on some of their cases.

Could do with a few cable holes on mine as well, identical case internally to thrifles, main difference is mine hasnt a door front panel.

I'm a big fan of Lian-Li - the simple lines and quality of build have made them a staple for nearly all my builds and friends and family.

Are you going to be doing a mod/upgrade soon setter?

I must admit, even though you still have a mighty rig i'm surprised your itch for upgrading hasn't been scratched yet and that there isn't a K suffix on your CPU in your sig(?).. :)

Cheers guys, bit disappointed I dint get case back today, was looking forward to getting cracking, damn Citylink, I took a few pics this aft of bits, but appear to of misplaced my cable, (actually had a clear out last week and think I may of binned it, lol) D'Oh

Also assembled up the mobo/cpu/ram/SSD and installed windows, just to check it all works (it does :D), as its been a while since purchase now and was wary of going to fire it all up next weekend only to find something had arrived DOA and needed RMAing, only things not tested now are gfx card (its pre-fitted with waterblock) and all the water stuff (guess pump is only thing that could actually not work really)

I've put my old rig directly into HTPC, Silverstone LC17 case, was going to sell it all on and buy new low power bits but by time I'd done that I wouldnt really be making any money and would have a lower powered machine, so now my HTPC is basically a second gaming mahcine, [email protected] and 1gig 560Ti

So fingers crossed, and toes, for next weekend go ahead

Setter, once I get it all back as I say I'll put up some more pics so you can see whats been done, in case it gives you any food for thought

Lol

Its cos I did it quick on your request, so I blame you, lol, all my pics are on secondary HDD which is waiting to be installed in new comp, so once I get my system up & running I'll sort it out for you again mate ;)
Well obviously not all, got a few wallpapers on this one, but my gallery is on other HDD

Look forward to seeing how the various mods you got done turn out. The black interior is stunning, i was considering going with a blue similair to this one, but with a black mobo tray.

But i think black will be a lot less hassle when it comes to matching components for a colour scheme.

That is a bright blue, lol
Gigabyte and MSI do blue so I wouldn't imagine it'd be too hard to match
But for me black is timeless, like ATM a lot of these white builds look really good, but will they still look so good in a couple years? I'm not sure

Yeah, very bright that one, i was looking at something similair to the gigabyte blue. As my gpu's are gigabytes, and corsair psu has blue on it as well. But ill probably be changing this rig when ivy bridge comes out. At least with black its much easier to match things.

Case has finally arrived, so I'm on for my rebuild this weekend :D yay
Put a couple of quick pics up to show the work I've had done, apologies for the poor quality, I will get better ones at weekend, I promise

The side window looks stunning, and the cutouts etc look really well done. Did you get the pci brackets and clamps done black as well? Bought a black clamp system for mine a while back, but got never got round to installing it.

Cheers

No, must admit I didn't think about it at the time, wasn't until I'd sent it off I thought about it, but as my gfx card/sound card brackets will not be black not 100% sure it would have been best anyway (half black half silver?), though I may look at seeing if I can spray them gold to match the gold writing on side panel and caps on board, if I can I should be able to do gfx/SC myself if I mask them up well and I'm careful, this way it would offset the black quite nicely I think, I'll wait and see

As I say the side panel looks even better in the flesh as it were

Looks great Thrifles - i'm a boring, unobstrusive, sleek black box type of guy but i really admire the craft and effort of people, such as yourself, who make quality aesthetic mods to their cases.

Look forward to the build log at the weekend - hope it all goes smoothly.

You're a star - although don't feel obliged to cater to my tastes; great and cultured as they are.

Hehe, is 'gallery' another euphemism for?.. ;)

I used to think that lian li's looked boring, (i was much younger then, bling was in lol). Now a bit older and wiser, (jurys still out on that last one) their understated design is beautiful, very elegant and welll built, nice clean lines, even a full tower such as the a70/71f looks so nice in a room regardless of it's size.

Well I've finished my rebuild :D phew, was not much fun doing it yesterday, though this was prob made worse by the hangover from hell (works do Fri night)

Still need to clock, work out fan controller and longer term I'd still like to get some gold fluid in there if I can, but that wont be for 6 months at least til I refill loop

Looks fantastic Thrifles - great attention to details and the tubing and cabling looks excellent.

My only concern (and it's only a minor one) is the superbly etched scorpion - as in, it's harder to pick out the outline as it's a black design backing onto various shades of black hardware. It's lost some definition with all the black tubing and HW directly behind it. However, this may be due to the definition of the photo and in real life it's not an issue? (Grab your friend to take some pics :))

'If' it is losing definition is there a way you could accentuate the scorpions outline - e.g. a subtle backlight from behind or even light thrown across from the side? (i'm no expert on these things). Perhaps the addition of the gold fluid will help - it will certainly compliment the case lettering?

Either way, looks great!

Cheers mate

It does look a bit better (clearer) in real life, as there's no light within the case so you cant generally see in, that was one thing I was unsure on myself, internal lighting, initially it was a big no no, initially I wasn't going to bother with the window and just add some soundproofing to the panels, but then I thought I couldn't have all that lovely WCing goodness hidden away so went with the window. I may look at adding some lighting, in a bit, though it would be optional (i.e. I'd be able to leave it off 95% of time and just turn it on for show) but not sure if white or yellow (guess they don't do gold lighting) would look better. I can always experiment

Overall I'm pleased, may not be quite as good as some of the other projects in here but its been my first full project and first WC build so I'm happy, granted I may of cheated a little by not doing the mods myself, but there's no way I would have got them to this standard and it would have cost just as much for me to try. And its still my design after all :D

Got my fan controller working, though its not manually adjusted, the speeds go off the temp measurers, you have four preset speeds, 1 (Off) 2 (low) 3 (med) and 4 (full) though my fans are 1300 rpm and I have the 120s on 3 going at 750 and the 140s on 2 going 680., but yeah these speeds are linked to temp ranges or something, still not 100% tbh but without temp sensors in they just run full whack, I wasn't going to bother with them, but when they're in you can set them to adjust so at temp below 30 they're 0, 30-45->1 45-60->2 etc. Obviously this is case ambient temp not water temp as they're not in line sensors or anything. But yes I have mine running as before and they're silent and cool
