Well GT3, mine passed it's MOT today with one advisory! "Front Steering Clunk"

I went down the spares shop and got two ARB Droplinks for £25 and now need an idea on fitting them :p

Are they difficult to fit?

Very easy, literally 2 undo the old nuts, remove the old droplink, put the new one in and tighten up the nuts. They usually have either a hex key slot inside the thread of the balljoints or a flattend piece on the balljoints to get a spanner in to stop the thread spinning around as you tighten the nut.

Ahh great thanks, I hope this cures the problem ;)

The top of one of my new droplinks (not taken out of seal yet) the bolt up at the top is twisted and bent to the left.

Should I take it back?

Errr... Depends what you mean by bent. Saxo and S2 106 droplinks have the top balljoint angled at 90 degrees to the main rod. Perhaps you have one that's straight and one with the 90 degree bend, in which case they've given you one for a Saxo and one for an AX.

I know its not my thread, but shouldn't you really be asking these questions in another/your own thread?

He has so many threads he simply couldn't choose one :( :p

Seriously though, a mod should delete all the unrelated posts and keep this as a project thread as it looks quite an interesting one ;)

No, a lot of these questions are directly aimed at GT3 who has been giving me various assistance over the last couple of months on certain problems my Saxo has developed.

The only reason that I posted was because this is a project thread, not a general advice thread.

Then again, if GT3 doesn't mind, then post away :p

I am aware that this is a project thread, it is just he has done the droplinks and many other things on his Saxo before.

Email me mate and I'll reply when I can rather than in this thread.

Will update the thread at the weekend, made quite a bit of progress :)

Small update:

Had all the exhaust on but couldn't get original manifold to join to the decat without blowing because its so rusted up so waiting for my s/s manifold to arrive, taking ages  Also waiting for K+N replacement panel filter, should come before the weekend. These arrived though so when manifold arrives I can crack on with the engine work ready to get it mapped at the end of the month.

Got the brakes sorted with the right hoses, bled up a while ago and are now bedded in, they work amazingly well although the race pads are a little extreme for road use so gonna get some fast road ones and save these ones for track use.

Started tidying up the engine bay by replacing the scabby painted coilpack cover with a brand new one from citroen. Got a new oil cap on order to stop it weeping too. When I fit the cams I will take the rocker covers to get powder coated.

More of an update at the weekend I hope!

Some parts arrived today :)

106 GTI gearknob (need a mk2 saxo gaiter before I can put it on)

K+N panel filter which is now fitted.

Gaskets and new fitting kit for manifold which is going on tomorrow along with decat and rest of exhaust.

So another update tomorrow I hope!

edit:

pic of the manifold!

Got whole exhaust fitted today! Seems to pull a lot cleaner through the revs, underbonnet temps are a lot cooler, quiet at idle but goes mad at 4k and when you back off at about 7k pops a rather large flame!

Just need a smaller backbox clamp cos its catching on the heatshield at about 3k revs but other than that its all good :)

Oh popped some mk2 rear lights on it too.

Great stuff Paul! Really interested to see the progress you're making.

So it spits out a flame does it? I need to see a video of that :D

Do you think the exhaust has unleashed any extra horses?

You going to bring it to the MM in the Summer?

You need a mk2 rear wiper! Why did you not opt for the pugsport in the end, since it proves best gains? Looks good so far but it wont be flaming when the exhaust soots up. :)

Whole exhaust, panel filter and manifold maybe 10 ponies but waiting for cams to unleash the real power :)

Yeah will try and make it to an MM! Was up not far from you lot today in ashton under lyne.

Got the wiper plug from a base model 106 on order :)

Pugsport looks daft on a saxo bumper sadly, sits too far over the right and really low down. The exhaust has been on another car for 10k so I'm sure its sooted up already! But when it gets remapped I doubt it will flame.

Ahh I see, overfueling perhaps then. All will be when remapped. My brothers 106 gti cammed is a nutcase of a car :D

This is starting to look rather cool now mate, keep up the updates.

I'm too lazy to look back through the thread, what BHP are you trying to achieve? 160bhp?
