Project Whurple - White/Purple Watercooled Build - Changes to 3d printer build!!

purple! I was thinking whurple and a transfer as well and messing about but I could very well mess that up and clean is the name of the game. I'm thinking Keep it clean and simple. The white colour match is not good alongside the case so leaving it white is out of the question. It kinda works at the front of the case but like that I think would annoy me. Wife probably wouldn't notice but I didn't like it straight away. Might be better in better light, either way I have made up my mind. It is going purple.

I'm getting my moneys worth out of the purple spray paint.

Yeah I was thinking
Purple with something white stencilled on
Or vice versa
Hard to say if all purple will be a bit too much or not
Edit
If all purple does look too much can just stencil a white dragon or whatever
Over top of some of the purple

I am pretty sure that there is no such thing as too much purple:

Only the first coat but looks pretty sweet imo.

Looks great and the wonk has definitely gone! How are you planning on connecting the GPU to the Motherboard by the way? Looks like a long way to travel? I'm guessing it'll be ok. And are you planning on doing anything on the front of the case? Like pint the corsair logo purple at the bottom or is it too fiddly?

I have a riser cable perfect for the job on the way. On the front of the case I will probably respray the logo as I think purple would look good there but before I do that I need a better masking tape. I bought some replacement tape and it doesn't hold up against the stuff I was using before in terms of giving a nice edge and you really do need that logo to be spot on. Will have to buy some proper soft edge tape for spraying like I had before. But yes I think the logo has to change.

@Vince thats Lilac not purple!

I was wondering when you would turn up :)

I know what you are all thinking though, you're thinking what with COVID is this build ever going to get more parts and what about the Chinese junk? Where in gods name is all the Chinese junk? Although the CPU is still not here, watercooling doesn't appear to have left china (then that could just be the tracking being broken), some stuff is actually making it through. Just dashed to the post office to pay my customs charges and I present to you the first Chinese dirt cheap parts. Total customs charges for this haul were £11.09p so consider that when you look at the prices outlined in the OP.

First up some of that memory with the RGB goodness, from a company nobody ever heard of and well it made it and for £35 plus some of that customs it actually looks like it might even work. Clearly though something needs to be done about the colour etc. Ever destroyed any chance of a warranty claim, if such a thing exists on such a product, before ever even trying something? I mean after what I am about to do to the memory they will not accept a return that's for sure and I refuse to take my machine apart to test so that is what is happening. Life on the wild side, they must change colour.

And yes I know that the back of my desk is dusty... dusted it now but couldn't be bothered to re-take the photo.

The specs of this stuff is 3200mhz cas 16 with some pretty lose timings after that. Will be interesting to see if it works and what it can do. We shall see once I have butchered it.

Right this next little lot was £18 and some of that customs charge, I don't even know if I want them or want to use them but I just had to see what £18 does on fans and a controller. You know what they don't actually look bad. Ill rig em all up to a supply later on and show you what these bad boys can do

TBC....

For the crazy low prices
It doesn't actually look like junk :)
Especially the fans price
Never got any rgb fans as the price of them just seemed over the top to be honest
You have any links for where the stuffs coming from?
Or your mate sorted it all out for you?

Sorry dude anything not bought through a friend and that I had an explore for I can't really post links for as ocuk sell competing products and it breaks the forum rules. If you hunt I am sure you would be able to find Chinese products exactly like these at prices very similar prices.

I rigged up the kolink with a paper clip, plugged in some fans and this gentlemen is what we have:

They shift quite a bit of air and dont make a whole lot of noise. Pretty impressed. I might have a fiddle with one of the controllers to see if I cant wire something in there as a permanent way of setting my desired colour. Want a darker purple than that and the only way to achieve that I think is fiddling with some voltages or something... Will report back once I have blown it up.

Very nice, such a clean look and the purple sits against it so well :)

Cheers dude. Hopefully won't take forever to finish. I mean it might if I keep making it hard work but time is on our side as parts are taking ages to come. Also forgot the obligatory purple top hat:

Didn’t know I liked purple and white but that looks ace. So clean.

I approve of this post! I just wanted this to be known and also thought people need to see this again.

Was too much to hope for the fans would
Do exactly the shade you wanted
Straight out the box :(
No way to software control them I am guessing :(

I have another controller that gets a lot closer so can measure what it is doing with my multimeter and simply make it do that. Should be fairly easy... should...

Meanwhile....

I wonder who makes those chips... no way its gloway... The mystery shall not be answered until we fire it up. Oh yea thats how this rgb memory goes together.

I sure hope she appreciates the amount of effort you are putting into this:)

TBH I am not even sure she cares. I know she will like having her own workspace instead of stealing mine all the time and really this is more about that, making an office we can both be in should we need to is really what it is about.

The suspense is killing me! I hope the stuff from China hurries up! Are the heatsinks on the ram really stuck on with double sided sticky tape? I'm learning a lot watching the build!

Is the rest of her station going to be white and purple themed as well?

And are you going to stencil anything onto the RAM?

What's the special masking tape that you'll be using for the logo too!

Also very impressed with the rgb fans! Where did you put the paper clip by the way?? Cheers sorry for all the questions!

So the ram, one side has a sticky double sided tape and the other heat pads that are sticky that goes across the ram modules. Memory operates at temperatures that do not need any kind of cooling in a regular pc case. What you see in terms of aesthetics on ram is purely that and carries no performance benefit.

The ram so won't be stencilled yet or anything like that but I have already given one stick a second coat of white and will put the purple details on shortly before the white dries fully. I will show you a before and after once that is done :)

When im spraying what I normally do is mask up everything near to the edge so everything apart from the areas you want is covered then at the edge you want a fine line 2 or 3mm masking tape, ive run out of the tape that give a nice edge though and don't know when that will show up. I am going to just do the memory with normal run of the mill tape so we shall see what happens.

So to jump an ATX psu to run some fans or whatever like I am in that pic you need to do this:

then turn it on and away you go. Do not do unless you know what you are doing.

Nice guitar, can you play it, bet it sounds beautiful

A little bit, I more make noise and just play a bit of blues, mainly learning scales etc. I can play a bit of the chillies, bit of Incubus but I have friends that can actually play and well yea i'm crap. That guitar though my friends that can actually play enjoy playing it, its a electro acoustic so it's got a nice acoustic sound but the neck is not deep like an acoustic so it plays a lot like an electric guitar. Basically it's a guitar for noobs.

Wasn't even expensive at the time i think like £100 odd quid. I like it though :) I did see a musician playing the same one at a local place so it can't be totally crap.

And still nobody has commented on my beautiful riser cable with annoying creases in it. God damn hippies! Ahh you know what RAM. Let me go see how it is looking. We need to talk about RAM!

Not happy about the creases in your riser cables mind !

aw man it doesn't look too bad to be fair and I still have a FM2 X2 black edition and it's still fast as my primary machine.

My primary is a TR1950x, 64gb 3466, Radeon 7. So really this as cool and funky as it is probably won't be blowing me away for the sort of stuff I do. For the wife though that only does outlook and vmware horizon then it's gonna eat that up no problem. Probably a bit overkill even :D.
