Protecting the top of a computer desk

So I got this nice desk from IKEA and I'm looking for a way to protect its surface. Anything that I can put or stick on top, but to cover the whole surface. Could be a mat, or something adhesive that you stick on top.

What would you recommend?

Big mouse Matt, that's all you need. Mousing on veneer will make marks after a while. Cheap veneer can also be damaged by repeated use of standard multi surface "mr sheen" type products, so wipe down with a damp non abrasive cloth to clean. No need for detergent for the most part, use very sparingly, in conjunction with a damp cloth if you really need to.
