Protein Shakes

If I take whey, do I have to take other powders aswell?

As a source of protein you mean?

I wouldn't have thought so, but perhaps the others can confirm this.

I believe you're supposed to consume 1.5g of protein per Kg of bodyweight per day. The bulk containers from MP really make that affordable.

The whey does not contain creatine though does it?

No, but if you are just starting to weight train (you didn't say so I am making an assumption) then perhaps it may be an idea to make sure you like the sport and will stick with it before going to any more expense.

Perhaps train for a month or so and see how you get on just using protein. Then if you have the bug then get the MP Hurricane formula or mix your own ;)

As the mad rapper suggests, just try increasing your protein intake with some whey for a month or 2, see how its working out for you and then think about adding creatine.

Creatine monohydrate (thats the regular "creatine" most people talk about and you can buy in holland and barret) is £1.85 /100gms. At 5gms a day you've could get a months supply for less than £3.

If you're a man and can swallow the most horrible tasting substance know to man, try CEE (creatine ethyl ester) at £3.30/100gms. Only need 2gms a day of this so you've got almost 2 months for £3

Prices taken from here: http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders/creatine/

Which ever you chose it's not gonna break the bank ;) but read up on both if you decide to start taking them. They've got side effects, nothing serious but could be unpleasant.

I've just gone through a tub of BSN Cellmass (CEE) and it tasted excellent, pricey though don't think I will be buying it again.

im guessing it was sweetened and flavoured?

Tasted great, mixed easily, not had any stomach problems, water retention or anything like that.

The only thing I didn't like was that it required a serving after the workout and a second serving 6-8 hours later, and when I normally go to the gym around 7pm that was sometimes impossible to do as Im not one for getting up in the middle of the night to take a supplement - no doubt my gains would have been better if I kept to the shedule religiously.

Im staying off creatine for a month now so that my body doesnt get used to it and I am slightly tempted to do another month of it but the price is what is putting me off.

When do I take this whey then? Is it 2 times a day and then on gym days one after the session?

Thanks for replies so far ;)

Twice a day would work with one after each training session. Its a bit rough and ready tho. Would be better to sit down and work out how much protein you need to eat each day, calc how much you get from real food then make up the remained with whey

what else is in the tub? im curious as to why the need for a 2nd serving and also there should be no need to cycle with CEE iirc.

It says on the tub to take a month off at least every 12 weeks, I used mono for about 6-7 weeks before using the CEE tub so I thought I would take a month off now seeing as I had ran out of the stuff.

A scoop is 16g and it reccomends you take two each day, even on off days.

All the ingredients should be listed here :)

I take two scoops with plenty of milk before bed as the protein will be released slowly over the night to prevent overnight catabolism. I suppose a slow releasing protein like casein would be better though.

Full fat milk will slow down the absorption of the whey but skimmed milk won't make too much difference. Only the milk protein will be slowly digested. Adding fats like olive oil, flaxseed or a raw egg with slow things down very well, especially if added to full-fat milk.

Not really an option when cutting though. A casein protein powder is the best though as you say :)

personally i would prefer to buy CEE on its own and some l-glut, rather than pay that money for 640g's!

Ah ok. I'm similar to you, I've bought it twice now just due to the sheer amount of people that swear by it. Does absolutely nothing for me.

I ended up giving half a tub away!

Biggest placebo effect in bodybuilding?
