Protein Shakes

why do you think you NEED to have it at these times?

post workout is the only time you NEED it.

Well in the bodybuilding guide it says you need to eat a lot of protein.

Yes you need to eat protein, but it depends on your goals, if you are looking to reduce your bodyfat and gain muscle mass, then yes taking a protein supplement will help you, but you have to remember diet is an important part of training, so you need to eat properly as well, or all your hard work at the gym goes down the drain!

Yeh I reckon my breakfast is ok. I usually have 2 eggs and toast. sometimes porridge aswell.

lunch can be improved upon, thats no prob. just buy tuna paste and use that for sandwiches.

dinners usually ok, if not can add some cottage cheese or wotever afterwoulds.

Now I thought about how much I would need.

training day = breakfast, pre workout, post workout, sleep . 4 shakes
rest day = breakfast, midday, sleep. 3 shakes

3 days training per week = 12 shakes
4 days rest per week = 12 shakes

That would make 24 shakes a week

According to the site you need to take 2 25ml scoops (which makes 25g) per shake.

That's not bad at all. Have a shake when you can't get protein into your diet through food. On a training day I'd AT LEAST have morning, pre-workout (A very important, under rated shake), post-workout (the daddy), and a shake before bed and then the rest of my food would be meat and quality carbs. But of course this suits me for my time constraints and training times.

And personally, I'd have more than 25g a shake because remember, the whey is only 80% protein.

How exactly does your diet compromise your time at the gym?

Say you have a strict, dedicated regime at the gym every day or two but then eat a Dominos now and again and get absolutely legless on Saturday, then does that render all your efforts futile? Apart from that I have a really healthy diet.

Agh I meant to say 'post workout'. Pre workout shake was just 50g whey and water just over an hour before.

Had the 50g whey, water and just under 2 scoops of oats, not sure what that would be in grams though.

I love the shake before bed though. Plenty of milk and chocolate nesquick powder.

You get muscles in the kitchen, remember that :)

A slice of pizza is fine once a week tbh but the excess alcohol will really hinder your gains.

How about if I stay below 5 pints?

Surely one night can't destroy an entire weeks' work though?

I won't be getting that drunk for a long time now anyway as I've got damn A levels coming up. Maybe now is the best time to really go for it then :D

beer is bad. if you had a stunning diet and just had 5 pints one night a week, it wouldnt stop you progressing, but you do not have a stunning diet ;]

I'm not at uni yet so my diet is still good thank you lol

We don't even have any crisp/choc/biscuits etc in this house. Damn medical profession health conscious parents

You have to have a little release every now and again otherwise you'll lose interest, things will get stale and you might well go MAD!! ;)

I tend not to drink much at all. No booze from sunday to thursday, no ifs or buts. Weekends i'll only drink if its a special occasion. If it is a special occasion (cousins wedding tomorrow) i'll just write that day off as a cheat day and try not to let the diet slip too much the following day (plenty of water to get the alcohol out your system and protein to replace lost glutamine). That's the real problem, one nights drinking can easily ruin a whole weekends diet and if you do it regularly, that's when you'll see goals starting to slip.

You don't need alcohol to have a good night and once you're a couple of hours in everyone else is so ****** they won't notice you're sober. Only down side is when you tell people you're not drinking you get one of two reactions 1) "Woah! I really respect that decision man. I wish I had that kind of determination/strength of character" ie. they have relationship issues with booze or 2) "Whats the matter with ya? Have a drink ffs, its great, look i'm having a great time!" /falls over

You're still young so I wouldn't worry too much about the alcohol suppressing testosterone like some of the older guys do. Try and pull, nothing like chasing a bit of skirt to boost the test!! :p Some people "need" drink to boost their confidence with women, well you'll have two advantages over those guys, one you'll look better than a sweaty, beer bellied drunk and two you can use the same rubbish lines on drunk girls but you'll be able to deliver them without either staring at their boobs or showering them with phlegm!

lmao, you're right I've got a lot to learn. I agree with you though, from being the driver now and again, I quickly realised that you don't have to be drunk to enjoy yourself. It's actually funnier in some ways as your mates are so embarrassing and have no idea you're even sobre.

This stuff is rebadged reflex right?

You my friend are a legend.

I almost ordered it earlier as well, would have been gutted if I'd ordered it then read this.

I have one of the large scoops from mp, however it doesn't say on it how many grams it holds... and I also don't know how much whey I should be taking, I trawled this thread and seems like people are taking varying ammounts, but more stake 30g with a shake?

If someone could lay it out very clearly exactly how to make a shake, how much of that scoop i fill with whey, and any other info that would be much appreciated.
