Prototype or InFamous

I'm actually prefering InFamous atm (though my Prototype character isn't fully built up yet). Prototype doesn't seem as polished though the free-running aspects are a lot more fluid, though it lacks the cross-hair style shooting that InFamous has. I'm actually surprized that InFamous is better as I'd presumed Prototype would rinse it out proper.

Yeah, the story seems to be more involving, plus the free running is very intuitive and satisfying. I thought the look of Infamous was much more polished than Prototype. Once you look past the flashy melee combat into the look of the game, the setting of Prototype looks quite boxy and bland texturally. Infamous is getting more towards the GTA4 level of look.

Then again, its a preference. If you want to be an athletic, free running, lightning type, go Infamous ... if you want to belt around getting involved in melee combat, go Prototype.

Was interesting to see that Infamous got about as good a review from Yahtzee that you'll ever get, with his main criticism being the same thing he labelled Bioshock with. Morality choices that equate to Hitler/Jesus.

Aye, i saw that too and pretty much agreed with everything in the review, including the criticisms. I just wish developers would ignore the good/evil mechanic and focus completely on perfecting one side of the coin. They did really well with the plot, but i can't help but think the character development (while good overall) would have been just that bit better.

I've played Prototype for all of 5 mins, the mechanics were great but i really didn't have enough time with it to comment

[EDIT] Grrrr @ Kreee removing his post and making me look like i have voices in my head

I've not played much of Prototype, but the impression that I get is that it is quicker paced and more immediate than InFamous. InFamous, though, seems to have more character depth and storyline, and is a little more involving; I can see Prototype descending into a GTA style killfest!

This isn't a bad thing by any means, and I know lots of people that enjoy this sort of thing! Guess it comes down to personal preference. For me, it's InFamous at the moment, although when I play some more of Prototype that may change!

Found Prototype a bit of a let down, if I'm honest. The difficulty scale is all over the place. Some times super easy, some times wayyyyy too difficult. The graphics are decent, but not what you'd really expect. It does get a tad repedative too...

The lead also suffers from Capcom dialouge syndrome. Not cool.

Still, worth getting. Probably only as a rental though.

InFamous is pretty great though. The free running is much more fluid and the combat is not as irritating (although that might just be me). The storyline is really involving and I'm enjoying it much more than prototype. I just think it's more fun.

I dunno I thought Prototype's free running was more fluid in the sense you can just literaterly run up and across anything by just holding the trigger. Where as InFamous was more timed and precise. The combat is irritating at times though, without a cross-hair and having to lock on to everything is annoying as you always lock-on to the wrong thing. Its awesome gliding above helicopters and preforming those Y-attacks though lool.

I'm playing Infamous at the moment, and really like it.

I played the demo, got bored after 5 minutes as I had no idea what to do. I was bored on Saturday and bought it anyway (don't know why as I didn't like the demo). So glad I did, as someone else pointed out it has a good story, you have the main story missions but also a lot of side missions which can add more info to the story.

Only thing I could say, it could do with a bit of anti aliasing.

So I'd recommend it.

Jase

P.S. I also got Prototype but will play that only after finishing Infamous.

This whole inFAMOUS vs Prototype debate is quite interesting. 1up have already done three podcasts about it, concluding with inFamous on top. I haven't played Prototype, but I did complete inFamous. However, half way through the 2nd island I just began playing for the sake of completing it and finding out the ending. I didn't enjoy playing the game.

1) The game spans three large cities with many civilians, yet it keeps taking you out of the immersion with the 'level complete' screens.
Plus everything seems very contrived. If you're good, people take photos, if you're bad, people run. Random people run up to you to ask for help. All this sounds good on paper, but in practice it feels like "If X, then do Y" (ie. very simply condition and effect commands)

2) Platforming became a chore due to having to mash X all the time. And it was annoying getting shot from long distances away; the shots would barely damage you but hearing that sound and the screen flashing over and over again is sooo irritating.

3) The world is huge, yet they didn't really do much with it in those three years. Everywhere it's just generic people and cars moving around. I expected a city in chaos (Dark Knight style), but all that happens are either little shootouts between the thugs and the cops, or the thugs and you.

A minor point: My badass character STILL wears that messenger bag?! And that super hero stance throughout the game looked stupid too.

They both seem to be doing different things tbh.

I've loved Infamous from beginning to end.

It takes the free-running from Assassins Creed and puts it into a world that is less linear. Some of the quests do repeat themselves but there is a lot more variety to them than AC and the story for me has a bit more going for it at the moment (until AC's story plays out to its conclusion).

The city itself feels something like GTA4 at certain times and Crackdown at others. You don't get the same scope to do crazy things as the other two games but its gritty and oppressive which seems to have been the goal.

Prototype is very similar to H:UD, almost too much like it as it carries over some of the problems from it (combat can be frustrating and a bit like pinball at times).

The action is a lot more immediate and brutal and the free running less subtle. In fact in some ways its a bit like Infamous' immature, less sophisticated sibling.

Its still bags of fun though, especially when you power up a bit. Forget the story as its complete arse, as is any character development. Its all about creating carnage.

Choose Infamous for a more considered free-running mechanic, better visuals and story and character development.

Choose Prototype to run up walls and smash the crap out of stuff with big arms.

Downloaded the inFAMOUS demo and I like it! Definitely going to be buying it soon, going to see what Prototype is like but inf is good from just the demo!±

I watched a vid on Prototype on youtube I found it funny how you could shapshift into an innocent looking woman then stomp on someones head making their head expode, lol

I completed my evil inFamous run last night and must say I enjoyed it a lot more than the good run as I was getting really annoyed with the civilians running up to you all the time, taking pictures and generally getting in the way.

Much prefered giving them a quick punch or kick on the way past if they got in my way on the evil run.

Like others here though I wish the moral choices had been a bit less black and white and actually affected the rest of the game as the only one I even paused to think about was [SPOILER ALERT!!!] when Trish was hanging from the building and even then she still dies regardless of what you do.

I've litraly just finished my infamous good run, I just need to find the remaining shards then il start my evil run, but what a game it kept me hooked right the way through.

I've played prototype for quite a while now and frankly got bored, it's really good at what it's designed for which is anarchy and general mayhem, but that has never appealed to me. I'm not the type of guy that goes on rampages in GTA for hours, i like to do missions and follow story lines and Prototype barely even caters for people with those tastes (yes i know it has both, but they feel like an extreme afterthought). Infamous on the other hand is incredibly focused on the story and the side missions are very varied and serve a purpose that adds to this story line.

So with that in mind, for me, Infamous > Prototype
