PS Vita will fail

lol

I want it for emulation on the go too... but that kind of talk is banned sir.

I'm pretty sure talking about where to download games, how to emulate games is against the rules.

Talking about the existence of piracy, emulators, using the "nouns" in a context relative to the discussion at hand is not against the rules.

Unless OcUK's moderators were replaced by the thought police. I don't think so.

Thanks for caring though.

PS Vita sales drop 57% to less than 20,000 compared to previous week in Japan.

Sauce

But then article doesn't state that all other products had a massive drop in sales figures.

Just looked at Wipeout vids and the FPS does slightly go down when a projectile explodes.

Don't think that would be a deal breaker for some but if it's consistently slowing down on all games, that's not good.

Thats one the earlier vids, all the latest builds seem to be smooth as butter throughout.

had this dilemma with my lad at xmas he fancied a psp which played proper games and a phone also

so bought him the SONY XPERIA PLAY slide out proper joypad with analougue sticks and buttons games are made just for that and fifa 12 is amazing on it as good as the psp easy

oh and its a fully functional android gingerbread phone with massive screen and the games only cost 3 quid

dungeon hunter 2 and the cod like game are just well amazing

well worth a look guys

Biggest problem the PS Vita faces is Apps, Most people that would be inclined to buy a Vita will already have a smart phone and while I agree real controls slaughter touch screen for most games. Most of us know we can get a 69p game that will provide us with lots of fun and if it doesn't then it's only 69p it's a bit more of a gamble with £35!

Unless Sony and Nintendo do a "App Store" with very similar pricing to Apple and Android then I think both are doomed to ultimately fail.

The Vita will do alright, it probably depends on continued software support.
I think there is definitely a market for it, not necessarily a huge market, but enough to make it a viable system.
Sony have created a premium product, aimed at the hardcore gamers who can afford such things, kids aren’t really their target market at this point, that’ll come later on when the price drops.
I certainly want one, and it’s priced at the exact point where I’m tempted, but I need to balance that out against the anger of my gf, who will be pretty unimpressed if I buy one.
About 6 months ago I returned to the realm of ‘proper’ handheld gaming by grabbing a cheap PSPGo. As I’ve been a PS+ member for aeons, I had a ton of PSOne games and Minis to play on it, plus I invested in the GoW games. Not only did I really enjoy playing proper games with dedicated controls, but I suddenly found that my HTC Desire HD battery was lasting a lot longer!
I’m all for the concept of having one device for phone, camera, games, etc… but the fact is, you are always going to compromise going that route.
Having a PSP made me realise I’m not willing to compromise ‘proper’ gaming, therefore a Vita is a viable prospect for me, and the many many others who think touchscreen controls are abhorrent.

I just wish I hadn’t lost my PSPGo :(

The 'casualisation' of gaming by Apple/Droid wont help.

But also, in the older days, you had no portable entertainment. It was a CD player (or walkman)..Or a Gameboy or something.

Then suddenly you have smart phones with internet access, people spending inordinate amounts of time on facebook, the random web. They can play games, take photos, watch youtube, make calls, listen to music and dabble on tappy tappy games..

Handheld gaming will suffer in totality, not just the Vita..

+1 £35 a pop for mobile gaming is way too much especially with all the smart phones & tablets available now. It's too expensive and the games are overpriced.

i have well over £50 worth of games on my ipad and i would swap all of them for superstardust delta on the vita which will cost around £8. Also you make it sound like all games are 69p which their not, most half decent are more like £4-5 unless a sale is on.

Tell that to Nintendo...

Although I agree some of game prices are to high(Uncharted), but there are other options like Motorstorm RC, Escape plan & Stardust which shouldn't cost more than £8-10 each.

I am still thinking about getting a Vita, but im not sure I need it. I barely game much anymore sadly. I hope dedicated handheld gaming devices dont fail, cuz smartphone gaming kinda sucks bar a few games.

Which is all well and good, if you assume the market is a fixed size, but it's clearly not. It's massively grown.

In its lifetime, the Game Boy (and Color) sold nearly 120 million units. Over 12 years. In the three years the GBA existed, it sold 80 million units. The DS has sold 150 million in 7 years. During which time the internet has happily coexisted with it.

On my iPad here and just came to agree that iPad/iPhone games are rubbish.

Though I think I would only use a vita on long trips away from home rather than a quick blast on a train etc.

Original psp is very popular here, always see people on trains with them. I think once the game library is bigger there isn't much reason for it to fail.

I have always believed that handheld devices are used primarily in the home rather then on the move. Therefore in regards to all the talk about people having to lug round vita + phone, I don't think it is that big an issue.

A lot of armchair experts in here. I highly doubt Sony would have continued in the handheld market and spent millions if they thought it was going to be a failure in anyway. It may not be groundbreaking like the Gameboy but its going to rack up solid sales figures like the PSP did before it.
I don't game anymore due to travelling all the time with work. The Vita seems perfect for me. I will wait a few weeks after its release to decide if I will get one of not. I'm not going to buy it for apps, it will be used for gaming only.

I have to be honest and say i haven't seen a PSP on the tube for a very long time, couple of years in fact. It's all tablets at the moment
